As we are misusing the definitions most often today...
"Radical"
9. a person who holds or follows strong convictions or extreme principles; extremist.
Being an extremist is not wrong. It simply implies a strong opinion that is held without compromise. Most people are "extremists" against terrorism and murder, and in this instance we are right. But those same terrorists are considered extremists as well...in an opposing ideology. It all depends on the fundamentals of belief, doctrine, political party, etc. that are held by the radical.
"Fundamental"
5. a basic principle, rule, law, or the like, that serves as the groundwork of a system; the essentials
And a person who adheres to the fundamentals of any ideology or doctrine are fundamentalists. Whether this fundamentalism is considered bad depends entirely upon, again, what those fundamentals are.
An environmentalist radicals' fundamentals are for things green. A developer's fundamentals are for things green to be torn down and used up. Neither is wrong until they resort to acts that are outside the law....violence and threats, or imposing their ideas through force on the unwilling...etc.
Vegans are radicals, just as gamers are, skaters and potheads...imposing ideas on another without representation in government is where it takes a downward turn for the worse.

In general, the term "radical" is used to mean the extreme. In other words, radical christianity means christianity away from the traditional norm. The same thing goes for Islam. Radical Muslims are away from the traditional norm.

Radical is a label used to describe those who advocate or use violence to promote their own religious or political views against the will of the larger social body. This would definitely describe Muslims who commit terrorist acts against the will of society in general and more moderate Muslims. There have in history been many acts of radical Christianity as well. A good recent example would be those who blow up abortion clinics or beat up and kill homosexuals because they believe it is the will of God.

Radical just means extreme and maybe even violently so. Radicals generally represent the smallest demographic in a religious or political group, but often get the most press.

What they label a "radical muslim" is not truly that. They are simply people following Islam, the way Islam was meant to be followed. The infidels (us) are supposed to be killed, an they are supposed to "lie in wait for them with every strategem of war...." and "slay them where ye find them". (Koran)
Listen, they are just being good Muslims. That is what Islam is all about. That is why 67% of "moderate" Muslims support the jihad against the west.

For "Silver S" - Since you mention you are muslim, and since the terms "Radical Islam" and "Radical Muslims" comprise the vast majority of media references to radical religion, I assume these are the references on which you are unclear. These phrases generally refer to those who adhere to the tenets espoused and/or practiced by people such as Osama Bin Laden, Mullah Omar, Mahmoud Ackhachmadinadnanajad of Iran, and various others. Specifically they insist that:
1. Non-Muslims are the cause of all trouble in the world.
2. Sharia law must be the supreme law of the land wherever muslims reside.
3. Non-Muslims should be converted to Islam.
4. Those who will not convert are infidels and should be killed.
5. Blowing yourself up in order to kill infidels, men, women, children, military and civilian is ok and will get you 72 virgins in heaven.
6. Driving planes full of infidels into large buildings is a good way to get attention, and will also get you 72 virgins in heaven.
7. If a woman shows skin in public, she should be shot in the back of the head for entertainment at halftime during a soccer game.
8. If your sister gets raped, someone in the family must kill her in order to save the family honor.
9. Cutting someone's head off and waving it around is a good way to show the world that your religion is peaceful.
10. When someone comes to fight you in the war you started with them, it's ok to hide behind the innocent people of your own religion in order to save your own sorry hide.
There are many more examples, but to summarize, "Islamic Radical" generally refers to those perverts within Islam who believe any and all of the teachings in the Koran may be discarded and ignored at any time in order to spread Islam and further the goal of instituting Sharia law world wide. Basically a "do as I say, not as I do" program of hypocrisy, mass murder, oppression and savagery not seen since Hitler's Nazi Germany.
Hope this helps

Radical would mean taking one aspect of that religion and making it seem as if it has more importance than all the rest combined.
Hence, radical and single minded on one item and one item or thought only.

A radical Christian tries to follow the Prince of Peace Jesus Christ, as close as possible. They want to follow His teaching and the example He gave us of how to live.
A radical Muslim tries to follow Muhammad as close as possible, they want to follow his teaching and his example of living.
If you want to know what that means, then read about the life of Jesus and about the life of Muhammad. The difference will become clear.

Radical usually means far from the normal, so if someone has radical beliefs they would be far from the normal belief of that faith.
