Well making the move fro regular soda to diet soda is a positive first step. Especially if you drink several regular sodas a day. But ultimately you should look toward drinking even diet soda rarely.
As unbelievable as it sound, some diet soda's can actually make you hungrier- which means you consume more calories.
Just consider this:
"Studies show that people who drink diet sodas while dieting don't lose as much weight as people who avoid sodas altogether -- but they do lose more weight than people who drink regular sodas.
In a new 10-week study, Danish researchers found people who drink sugared sodas gained about three pounds. Diet soda drinkers lost nearly two pounds -- but those who drank no soda lost even more.
Why? Some say the diet sodas actually boost appetite."

So, don't worry too much, as long as you aren't drinking them everyday. Just apply some moderation and you should be fine.

Diet Soda dehydrates. So you will end up thirstier. Many people mistake thirst for hunger and will eat when they should just be grabbing an apple or something. Additionally there is a theory that people who consume diet soda will overeat on other items because they think they were "good" and cut out a lot of calories with the diet soda and can have a treat or two. Then there is that whole thing with aspartame possibly causing cancer among other health problems (apparently the way your body metabolizes some chemical in diet soda results in you having formaldehyde in your system).
And despite all that I swill diet dr pepper, diet arizona green tea, and diet coke like, well water.....If I actually drank water.

Diet soda can be unhealthy if a person does not change his or her eating habits. Some people may eat more and justify their eating since the diet soda they're drinking is zero calories. Of course, dentists frown on drinking diet sodas, grouping it with regular sodas, candy, etc. There is also concern about how the body processes and does not process artificial sweeteners. For some, diet soda is also bad for the skin.

Here is a saying that my uncle,a doctor, says, "It's either calorie free and fat full or fat free and calorie full".
But however, in the case of Diet Coke, this isn't true. I looked on the back of a can of that one time and it has almost nothing in it.
For your diet it depends on what you are trying to cut down on. If you just don't want to be fat, then I think and occasional diet soda is ok. and I'm not talking one a day. Maybe on every 3 days to treat yourself to how good you've been doing on your diet. (Don't give it to yourself if you haven't) I personally work well with movtivation.
Good luck on your diet!

Diet soda contains Aspertaime which has been linked to certain diseases like Alzheimer's and Certain Cancers...yes it is better to drink it if you are trying to loose weight but in large amounts over time is can cause more harm to your body then good. This is why you may be told, especially by a Nutritionist, that is is not recommended to drink it, they usually will tell you to drink juice or something else that will fulfill your appetite.
Hope this helps!!

the phosphorous in the acid still deteriorates your bones
who cares about calories - your frame is the victim -
musch worse than the weight
*****************
Experiment - pour a small glass of cola -
take a nail - tie a string aound the head -
then put it halfway into the soda (use the string under the glass to secure the distance)
check it the next day - how much is eaten away?)
therefore - what does that do to YOU?
************************************************
now the gross - why do state troopers carry cola
( a very national brand) in the trunk of their cars ?
best stuff to wash blood off the highway - the acid eats it away
************************************************
and cola also does a number on the enamel in your teeth
cavities anyone?
** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** **
PS - I agree with Kristen ^^^^ above
my brother can drink a diet soda with aspartame in it - and within 20 minutes has a two hour migraine headache
not anymore!

Diet soda is better than regular soda, caloriewise. It does cause bloating, though. Drink water most of the time, but a diet soda on occasion won't blow your diet.

The aspartame and caffeine are counter productive to losing weight.
Remember caffeine is a stimulant and will tend to make you feel hungry even when you're not really.
And many people mistake thirst for hunger so drinking plenty of water is the way to go which doesn't mean you have to completely forgo the diet soda. just make sure you're drinking plenty of water.

They "the experts or whatever" say that it is because the sweet taste (even though it is artificial) will lead you to crave other sweet things; however, in my own experience, diet soda and fatfree/sugar free general foods swiss mocha coffee are what help me stick to eating better-with their sweet tastes, I feel like I am having a treat, so I am better able to avoid all the cakes, cookies, etc.
