Many civil servants have a record blemish or two. It is not so much whether or how many but what kind that can prevent you. Speeding tickets and parking tickets won't prevent you from being a fireman (volunteer or not) but a conviction for Arson would absolutely prevent you. It is not just your criminal record that is usually at issues to be a fireman, teacher, policeman etc. . . . but mental and physical issues as well. Good luck.

Having served as a paramedic/firefighter for ten years, the things that will keep you from volunteering as a fireman are felonies or sex crimes (even misdameanors). As far as traffic violations, depending on the departments' insurance you may or may not be able to drive aparatus.

maximum departments forestall human beings from turning out to be a member of with any legal conviction. I easily have served as a volunteer and paid fireman/paramedic for ten years. in case you bypass to the supervisor with the data they may be waiting that might actually assist you even though it relies upon on state code too. some states have particular codes on the subject of public service vendors inclusive of volunteers that ought to restrict you from being a volunteer fireman with a legal DUI. the different issues that ought to evade your admission is psychological well-being difficulty, habit matters, criminal record, suspended lisence, delinquent new child help, cardiac issues, and respiratory issues.

I don't think traffic violations are your first concern, but you don't get to drive the truck if you have a bad record - I know
some First Aid Squads won't take you if you can't be insured to drive the rig.
Obvious ones - common sense
arson
assault
battery

Every department(City,County,Paid,Volunteer) have SOP's and protocols they go by,I know that the 8 departments here will not let you on with any Felony convictions, certain misdemeanors(assault, domestic violence).Really it is all up to the departments. One of the departments I was on dismissed guys for stealing(misd),writing bad checks(felony and misd.).Your best bet is to contact an officer (Lt,Capt,Chief etc) and talk to them.It varies everywhere.

If you've ever been convicted of arson?
Seriously I'm guessing if you have a criminal record (misdemeanor or felony) that does it for you.

Some of that will be state specific. Most states won't allow a felon to work on a VFD.
