The "Good News" Bible is a good one. It is fairly cheap as bibles go and very easy to understand. Congratulations on having a family member come to Christ...you are defin in the right church...a spirit filled church...I was baptized in the Holy Spirit way back in 1980...

Here are a couple of scriptures so you can see how it reads:

Genesis 1:1-3
In the beginning, when God created the universe, the earth was formless and desolate. The raging ocean that covered everything was engulfed in total darkness, and the Spirit of God was moving over the water. Then God commanded, "Let there be light" — and light appeared.
John 3:16
For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life.

If your church is committed to the King James, I would suggest the New King James, which is a little easier to read. If you are open to more translations, I would suggest a "parallel" Bible which places 2 or 3 translations side by side, so you can read the same passage in a couple of different translations for better understanding.

I would choose a parallel Bible with the New King James and the New International Version and maybe the Amplified version. He also might enjoy simply reading "The Message" for understanding.

Many scientists, docs and researchers have a god-like complicated. as a results of fact they can't stay away from and treatment the illnesses we've already got and be afflicted by, they experience the would desire to come back up with innovating concepts to make a recognition for themselves. Cloning? isn't it God's interest to create existence? the place will this lead and the place will it end? Stem cellular study? Take a ingredient of a created person and use it to help out an sick human. the place could this lead and the place could it end? Genetic Engineering? Engineering is the wisdom that throws me right here. i'm against all 3 and no i does no longer partake in any of them despite the fact that if i necessary a heart. If he has any kind of a church background, try the New King James. It is an good, readable, translations that uses as much of the earlier King James phrasing as it can and still be readable. Nice bridge between the older KJ and the many new translations on the market. It usually reads the way you (or at least I) expect it will.

If he is not at all familiar with the KJ, then go with tne New International Version. Well done translation, very readable, and nice style to its layout and headings. Good for a first Bible.

I will give you a reason the King James Version is the best. First most other versions take out the basic fundamental components pf Scripture, such as the Blood of Christ or salvation, the virgin birth, Hell and some even use 11 th century words to "update the language." Also these other versions tend to use their theological twist on scripture.

about $60-$70 can get you a good parallel Bible with 4 translations on the same page. mine has King james and New jerusalem---excellent translations. American Standard is good, don't much care for the mod, "living" translations but to each his/her own. A parallel Bible, from Zondervan, avail online, with king james, new jerusalem, american standard, and something else will do well---all the best, Brian

I believe the NIV would easier for him to read and understand. Although the King James is the best, it can be confusing to a new believer. Also, you don't want him to be discourage from something that he may not comprehend.

I would check with your local Bible Store. They may direct you to something that us understandable for him.

He should keep reading the King James, and just ask God to give Him understanding, if He's truly saved, then God will give Him understanding. God always does.

NIV appears to be the standard for anyone. However, if the person is a brand new believer, I suggest the New Living Translation. Easier to read.
