Tactical missiles can travel up to about a maximum of about 2700 feet per second. Most tactical nuclear missles would be a bit slower because of the weight of the war head. Ballistic sub-orbital missiles re-enter at about 3600 mph.

A typical ICBM is in a semi-orbit, meaning it burns up the propellant in a couple of minutes and then is in an orbit that is smaller than the circumference of the Earth and intercepts the surface of the Earth at the point of impact (a bad place to be).

The smallest stable orbit is about 35,000 miles / hour and takes about 88 minutes to circle the Earth. ICBMs travel slower than that, but can still make it nearly halfway around the world in an hour. Say... about 15,000 - 20,000 MPH.
