I would like to start biking to get back into shape. Is it better for my body to work out in the early morning "before work" or going for a bike ride when I get home (after dinner)?

I've been biking for a while. In my experience I would bike in the morning. The reason for doing so (at least in the "getting back into shape" aspect) is because once you get a good workout your body will actually continue to burn calories at a higher rate well after your done with your workout. If you workout in the morning then your body will burn more calories throughout the day than if you did your workout later in the evening. (it gives me the excuse for an extra piece of dessert!) :) Oh and keep the heart rate up for at least an hour to start burning fat.....that's the key. It's not how FAR you go, it's how LONG you go. I found it best to ride my bike TO work AND back home. The ride TO work makes you a better person for working with your fellow workers.

The ride home made me a better person for my family.

Saved money, and no complaints about the time.

And that is one of the keys; how do I get my rides in while not taking anything away form anyone else?

in my experience, i would say before.... you always feel better after working out or biking or whatever so i like to do it in the morning because then i feel good and end up having a way better day...plus if you do it after dinner, u might get cramps :-/

both are good and if you can do both but morning is better, you will have better focus for the day and you will sleep better, after dinner is also good because you burn a big part of the calories you consumed during the day, if I were you I would go morning and after dinner

I prefer riding before work personally. It wakes me up and gives me some good personal time before the grind.
