In a professional environment, what's a good way to close e-mails? I use "Thank you," followed by my name, but what about the cases where there's nothing to be thanking the recipient for? "Regards," is a good one, but my supervisor uses it, and I don't want to seem like I'm emulating her.

I'm not talking about mailings to clients, but moreover supervisors whom I am e-mailing items/questions/responses to regularly. Putting just my name (and address) may be viewed as either rude or inappropriate.

of course you need to leave a closing remark. would you leave that same person house without saying good bye , would you hang up the phone with out saying something? of course not. How about good bye, be talking to you soon , your friend or even "later" . Use the appropriate phrase for the situation the same as you would if the person was standing in front of you

Use whatever you want. Your boss won't think you are copying her...there aren't a heck of a lot of options.

I use 'cheers' to someone I already have a working relationship with or 'thanks' if I'm asking for something, otherwise, I generally say have a great (whatever day it is)

You don't need one at all just your name and under that address, phone and fax numbers, Outlook lets you set them up automatically then type in thanks or thank you or see you soon or whatever the email calls for.
