Volumous hair can be tricky to manage, but it's also really cool. I wouldn't reduce the volume, I would simply get a shorter hair cut, like a bob. Yes, it will look poofy but also elegant, as curly hair will make it sort of curl up a bit. I tried that haircut a few years back, and it looked fine (I have somewhat volumous, wavy hair)

my hair does the same thing

what i do is mix a little curlcare gel from tresemme with a little frizz cream from sunsilk (the green bottle) and leave-in spray conditioner from pantene, it might take a few tries but you'll get the combination right.

the key to great curls is moisture, i actually heard somewhere that natural curly hair is more dry than natural straight hair is. just condition, and buy shampoo & conditioner made specifically for curls.. the sunsilk is really good.

also, instead of using a towel on your hair after a shower, use an old t-shirt, it makes your hair less unruly and frizzy... i hope this helps a little

Try Paul Mtchell's 'Skinny' it decreases volume of hair. A few tips:
-Get a haircut with some layers, t will help decrease the volume of your hair. Have your hair cut dry and by a good hairstylist.
-You might want to consider getting your hair chemically straightened if your hair is very hard to deal with. Look at a salon near you for details.
-Use shampoo formulated for curly hair to help manage your hair. Herbal Esscences 'Totally Twisted' works well.
- Only use a small amount of shampoo every other or every third day, but condition EVERY day.
-NEVER blow dry or towel dry your hair. Let it air dry or use paper towels, they will help lock in moisture.
-Comb hair with a wide toothed comb a bit of detangling spray while wet.
-Apply a little bit of good quality gel when hair is damp.

Thick, curly hair is definitely hard to manage, but if treated properly, it looks beautiful! Good luck! =)

Ok a bit of time, a bit of gel and some boby pins. Take your hair in small sections not ultra small but snall sections run a tiny bit of gel on that section twist it up and let it dry. If you are not in a hurry sleep that way. No poof. Use a leave in conditioner after the bobby pin treatment and you can get a comb through it. Aussie leave in has a nice shine built in too.

My hair is the exact same way.
You could try products specifically for curls.
Certain shampoos and conditioners help curls be mor curly and less poofy.
Also, I use Pantene Pro V stuff for curls. it kinda makes me curls crunchy, but it keeps them from poofing out.

Go to a hari dresser and get layers. Layers thin out your hair. Also after you get layers then buy Sunsilk Anti-Poof Shanpoo and Conditioner. It helps a lot. Trust me :)
