Indifference.

Love and hate are two sides of the same coin, namely passion. To be loved or hated is better than being ignored. At least you know someone is thinking about you when you are hated.

That depends. There was a time when, if you asked the average person, they'd say "hate" and the slightly more clever person would say "indifference".

These days, the average person has probably heard the slightly more clever answer enough to say "indifference".

That said, it's hate.

The reason it's hate, and not indifference, is that love is a dynamic emotional state. Its opposite cannot be a lack of any dynamic emotional state, it has to be a negative dynamic emotional state which is equal to the positive dynamic force that love can provide.

Since that's the case, indifference cannot truly be opposite to love. It can simply be an absence of it.

The negative dynamic emotional state which is equal but opposite to love is hate.

Therefore, the opposite of love is, as most people always thought it was, hate.

Neither.

Opposites are like poles on a magnet...to say one exists means the other HAS TO EXIST or neither exists. Without one you would not know what the other is.
Indifference and hate does not have to exist for love to exist. You can know what love is without indifference and hate.

Indifference. Love is the existence of all positive emotion. The complete lack of emotion is as opposite as could be.

Indifference. Hate is still a strong emotion, indicating a tie to that person, albeit a negative one.

Indifference on the othe r hand, means you truly don't care about the other person at all. Doubly painful if you once loved them.

Fear is the opposite of love.
Why? The values of love ( understanding, patience, compassion etc) make it a wise emotion. If you catch my drift. Fear on the other hand stems out of ignorance and values of fear are hate, anger, jealousy etc. If you disect these negative emotions fear will be a common denominator.
What is fear? - in a nutshell an outcome that is unknown or that might disturb/ challenge your comfort zone.

Indifference. Not a doubt in my mind.
For me to hate would mean I care.

I think it is indifference. Both love and hate are strong emotions. Indifference is nothing....a lack of emotion.
