I got a tattoo Sunday that's red with a black outline. The next day it started having little waxy blisters. I thought it was the lotion so I switched. It doesn't really itch. But it's not healing either like a normal tattoo. It seeps more than usual and my skin seems really uneven. Not just a normal scab. I have normal allergies like cat and dog. So I take benadryl everyday. I was going to call the shop today but I feel really weird about the situation. My friend got a tattoo the same day and his is fine.

People don't get allergic reactions to ink just like that unless you already have a tattoo with that color. It is likely too much aftercare product, that area was over worked, especially common around the line work, or you could have a staph infection.

You can ask your artist to look at it but obviously they cannot prescribe antibiotics for you if you have an infection.

Did you begin using A&D ointment? Your supposed to use that for the first three days, just a thin layer a couple times a day, and then go to a neutral lotion like Lubriderm, to keep it hydrated.

I would say it could be lack of proper care OR you do have an ink allergy. The best thing to do in this situation is to go back into the shop you got it done at, and ask them to take a look at it.

Some people have bad reactions to certain brands of red ink. There are certain chemicals in that color that affect some and not others.

Go back top the shop and let the artist know. They will tell you to let it heal. And then come back and get it touched up with a different brand of red ink. They may even do it on the house.

It happens to a lot of people so dont feel weird.

Just go back to the shop and ask if it's normal. You shouldn't feel wierd. Better to ask than go to the hospital with a staph infection or something!

Most of mine healed like that, because i have really sensitive skin. I would say if it still looks like that after a few more days, go back to the artist and ask.

Please call your tattoo artist. Don't feel awkward about asking him if this is normal..this is a permanent mark on your body and you need to make sure everything is alright. It may be an ink allergy, it does happen. Or (not to alarm you) but I have heard about not-so-ethical tattoo artists using expired ink causing very unsightly tattoos. Best of luck to you!
