In the words of the sainted Dr. Francis Pieper:
"There is some basis for the hope that God has a method, not revealed to us, by which He works faith in the children of Christians dying without Baptism (Mark 10:13-16). For children of unbelievers we do not venture to hold out such hope. We are here entering the field of the unsearchable judgments of God" (Romans 11:33).
What is the basis of such hope? It is this, that God is not Himself bound by the means to the use of which He has bound us. That is to say that while Christ has commanded us to baptize all nations, God can save sinners without Baptism. He did so throughout the entire Old Testament. During the first 2,000 years we know of no special means of grace for little children. At the time of Abraham He instituted circumcision, but He did not thereby provide for little girls. It is for God to determine under what conditions He will receive children into His kingdom.
A most encouraging instance for the Holy Spirit's power to influence even unborn infants in a spiritual way is found in Luke 1:15, 41, 44, where it is stated that the unborn John the Baptist leaped for joy within his mother's womb when the unborn Jesus was brought into his presence by His mother Mary. Behind all this is the all-encompassing Gospel pronouncement that "God was in Christ, reconciling the world [including the little children] unto Himself" (2 Cor. 5:19).
As to the second point we might say: Whether individual pastors have ever baptized stillborn children immediately upon their arrival, we do not know, and to our knowledge such practice has never been sanctioned. Nor should it be sanctioned. The means of grace, including Baptism, are for the living only (Heb. 9:27).

The Pope hasn't actually said what happens. There seems to be... additional hope that they go to Heaven rather than Limbo. Limbo, by the way, is a place of joy to the greatest extent -naturally- possible, and not some hellish place. Nonetheless, there is apparently some separation from God intended.

The baby will go to heaven.
You do not get to heaven by being baptised though.
The only way to heaven is by praying and asking God to save you. You have to repent of your sins and ask God to cleanse you. And ask him to come into your heart! Admitt that your a sinner and ask forgiveness. He will save you if you are sincere. and since babys cannot do this than they just go to heaven anyways because they have not yet reached a point of understading about this. Babtism is just a picture that shows that you are being reborn a saved person

We hope they go to Heaven, but we just don't know. Contrary to popular belief, the Pope did NOT say that Limbo "doesn't exist anymore". The recent Church document on the matter stated that the theory of Limbo "remains a possible theological opinion".

I don't know where some people get their info but babies are not born innocent, or get a free go to heaven card until a certain age. They are subject to the same salvation program that all people are, of which water babtism is not a part, regardless of age, God is not a respecter of persons.
The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies(Ps 58:3)

I don't believe in infant baptism, since babies aren't born knowing how to sin, they aren't sinners. They are innocent. Because of this, I believe they go to heaven. I don't think any loving God would send someone who doesn't know what sin is to hell. That wouldn't be loving at all!

mark 10:13-16 it says that children belong to the kingdom of God. and children don't need to be babtized until they fully understand the meaning of baptizm and how we need to do God's will. children are pure and have no sin. so why would they need to get babtized at birth? hope this answered your question.

There is no need for babies to be baptized. It is an abomination to do so. Children are innocent and pure (such is the Kingdom of Heaven) and have no need for baptism. Only when they reach the age of accountability shall they be baptized.

Hi,
Baptism is NOT for Babies. It is for adults and young ones who understand the gospel. One must understand and be able to acknowledge Christ to become a Christian. Before that time young ones are safe. They are considered "sin free". Have a wonderful day.
Thanks,
Eds (Christian)

The Bible does not tell us the answer to this question. No one really knows. It is all speculation.
All we know is that God is merciful, just and loving and He will deal with the soul of an unbaptized baby with love, mercy and justice.
If I had to guess, I would say that the baby is in Heaven.
