Once you are in the military, you are mandated to serve for 8 years.

Say he served 4 years active duty. Then he still has 4 years of inactive ready reserve, or IRR.

Any time during that period that the military needs him back, they can summon him. If he is still in the IRR, then there is a good chance he is putting on his uniform again.

This is most likely just an offer to reenlist or extend his reserve service. It could also be that they just want to check up on his current job status and any dissability he may have. I just had a similar call from the Marines, they just want an update on what I'm doing sence leaving active duty.

Depending on his career field and his enlistment agreement, more than likely he can be recalled to active duty for up to five years after he gets out. If that is the case,he will have to serve..it was part of the agreement he made with them when he enlisted and is a binding contract. That being said, he would more than likely be offered a re-enlistment bonus (depending on branch and career field) and would be entitled to full military benefits again.

It is POSSIBLE to be called back, depending on how long he served and the contract he has. Then again, maybe they're just investigating something that happened a few yeas ago, looking to get information for a guy's security clearance, or any number of things.

when a solider signs a contract it is for 8 years they serve a minum of 4 active and 4 reservs it is not just 4 years and there gone they can still reactivate him and he has to comply.

mabe you should ask your fiance what is going on it sounds important and he shouldnt hide stuff from you it could just be paper work that he needs to take care of talk to him and find out. i dont understand why he didnt talk to you in the first place since how you are his fiance

They will be offering him some money to reenlist, and depending on his rank it could go as high as 40,000, which may seem attractive at the time, but what you have to factor in is what he makes now versus how far the money they offer him would go if he did not make it back! I doubt the bottom line well substantiate the risks!

We saw a lot of IRR guys in the Gulf War, but mostly they were sent to Germany or remained stateside in support roles while active duty and guard went to the front.

Yes they CAN make him enter again. It's called being in inactive reserve status. He served his active time, but is still obligated after he gets out to serve as inactive reserve. In this time the military can call you back to service whenever they want.

If he's still in Ready Reserve they can drag him back. It happened to a friends son. He was pulled out of college and away from his reserve unit.

Before they send him anywhere they will probably have to re-certify him on weapons etc. This eats into the time they have to deploy him.
