This is a link to a site that has many words in sign language, (ASL):
http://commtechlab.msu.edu/SITES/ASLWEB/browser.htm
It has today. But not the combination today is, nor the word is.
Sorry about this half answer.

There's to ways you can do.
1). Form both your hands into the 'y' shape and place them at your shoulders and bring them down and out. Stop when you are inline with your waist.
2). You can sign the word 'to'. To say 'to' with your right hand, have the pointer finger pointing up, and with your left hand, have the pointer side ways, and bring the left pointer to the right. Then you sign 'day.' To do that you lay your right hand flat across your chest and with your left hand you make a 'd' and put your elbow on your right hand, and bring the 'd' down to your right elbow.
It probably sounds confusing, because you really have to see someone sign a sign to understand. A great website to try is:

She kind of shakes the Y hands, but it is also done by just pulling the Y hands down to waist level.
Normally, words like "is", "are", "the", etc. are not signed in conversation. But the sign for it (if you are using Exact Signed English) is to fingerspell "I", but put the thumb-side of your hand up against your chest. Push the "I" out about eight inches.
Same thing with "are". Put an "R" hand against your chest and push it out a little. "Be" is with a "B" hand. "Am" is with an "A" hand.
But again, these are not used in normal daily conversation. Mostly they are for an education environment or if it is really imperitive that the exact sentence be signed.
