Hello,

Curious...What is an Evangelist exactly, and how do they differ from other Christians or is there even a difference?

I consider myself a Catholic, yet open minded towards other segments, religions, etc...and enjoy learning what other people believe...I recently visited an Evangelist church…..and was surprised with the behavior I witnessed...of course everyone is able to believe what they want...It just took me off guard.

Good day.

An evangelist is a member of any Christian sect that believes that spreading the word and recruiting more Christians is their highest calling.

I'm not sure whether you mean Evangelist or Evangelical. An evangelist is a person who proclaims Christ (like a minister or lay speaker.) Billy Graham is an evangelist. An evangelical is a christian who is strongly committed to sharing their faith in a personal way with people they meet in the normal course of their life. Many, though not all, evangelicals are also charismatic. Most evangelical churches have very contemporary services. Most charismatic churches also have contemporary services but may also include elements that seem pretty unusual for a Catholic. Charismatics often include speaking in tongues, healing services, and a variety of other things. One group even handles snakes in their service.

It's pretty hard to characterize a church or a person as evangelical or charismatic on the basis of a single element of their service. There are, btw, charismatic and evangelical Catholics. Do a google search and you wil see.

An Evangelist is one who is a Christian and does full time work for the Lord by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to inform people that they can have Eternal Life through faith in Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us "neither is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given to man whereby you must be saved". Your church cannot save you, your priest cannot save you, your baptism cannot save you only Jesus can save you. I would encourage you to take a look at what your church is teaching and if it does not line up with the bible then you should consider going where the Word of God is preached. We are all called to share the Gospel, (Christians) "go into all the world and preach the Gospel". Bottom line , there is only one way to heaven and that is through the sacrifice Christ made on our behalf. We have to exercise the faith to believe and ask (Christ) for forgiveness and repent, thus we are saved. Christ tells us "He will cast our sins away as far as the east is from the west" and never more will they be charged against us. Your priest cannot do this for you or intercede for you, we are told in the scriptures "there is one mediator between God and man, the Lord Jesus Christ". I do not wish to attack your religion but it is not correct in quite a few of their teachings, they are of man and not the scriptures.Cheers

An Evangelist "evangelizes" by spreading the gospel. They witness. This is in the Bible. Some denominations and some Roman Catholic sects, do not teach or preach Evangelism.

An Evagelist is someone who presents the gosple to people in order to bring them to Christ. Billy Graham is the most popular of all evanglist. However I think you must be refering to evangelical christians, they are a different breed. Not saying that one could not be both, as is Billy Graham.

Evangelical christians started back in the days of reformation. The movement is an attemp to get back to the true first century christians. Modern day christians are the product of religion, first century christians where all about having a personal relationship with God, through His Son Jesus the Messiah.

God be with you

To be an "evangelist" is to be someone who preaches the "Good News" of Jesus Christ.

I would hope, by the very definition, that we are all "evangelicals".

Christians are gullible folk. Evangelists take advantage of their gullibility.
