I think that the best way is to use solar energy.

I believe the best way is to combine efforts of several technologies:

Solar Power - line every house rooftop with solar panels and solar water heaters
Wind Power - place wind turbines in appropriate areas
Hydro Power - use dams to generate power
Wave Power - use the ocean's waves to generate power
Geothermal Power - use to heat and cool homes
Hydrogen Fuel Cells - use hydrogen fuel cells in combination with solar power and other means to create hydrogen from water and to power fuel cells instead of utilizing batteries which can end up being hazardous waste

Then promote energy efficient products.

Solar energy is nice but highly inefficient. If you want to look at a clean energy source, look to nuclear energy. France has had it as their major energy source for years. Their energy costs are very low and it is very clean.

That being said, you can't stop a natural process. We should all be concerned about pollution. We have been taught since childhood to clean up our rooms and minimizing pollution is basically the same. But the end goal of minimizing pollution is NOT to reverse "global warming," but just to keep the air, water, etc., as clean as possible.

Global warming is one-half of the climatic cycle of warming and cooling.
The earth's mean temperature cycles around the freezing point of water.
This is a completely natural phenomenon which has been going on since there has been water on this planet. It is driven by the sun.
Our planet is currently emerging from a 'mini ice age', so is becoming warmer and may return to the point at which Greenland is again usable as farmland (as it has been in recorded history).
As the polar ice caps decrease, the amount of fresh water mixing with oceanic water will slow and perhaps stop the thermohaline cycle (the oceanic heat 'conveyor' which, among other things, keeps the U.S. east coast warm).
When this cycle slows/stops, the planet will cool again and begin to enter another ice age.
It's been happening for millions of years.
Humans did not cause it.
Humans cannot stop it.

There is no way to stop global warming. GW is just another term used to identify natural climate change. If tomorrow all man made power sources were to be shut down, 95% of all humans were to die, and al industrial activity were to cease, this would simply recreate the conditions taht were present when thelast ice age ended and the planet warmed up to the point it was some thousands of years before the last ice age started. The fear of climate change can best be compared to the fear primitvie man had for a solar eclipce

So instead of everyone doing there part of recycling and using chemical free products, why dont we help everyone be aware of the problems which is what LIVE earth was about. In turn, everyone is still polluting the earth. I have recently switched cleaning products which use no chemicals. WHY? cus I am trying to be earth friendly! I do my recyclables and now watch what I flush and pour down the drain. The whole problem is Im one person. If everyone started doing their bit, the earth would be that much better. Wildlife would long longer etc...If anyone wants more information on products healthy and safer for your homes, please visit my website and contact me through email...cheers

Easy step: think smaller.
Small cars, small homes, small appliances (including TVs and refridgerators not just A/Cs)...that require less energy and make running on electricity we can get from renewable sources reasonable (IE you can run a 1000-pound car on purely solar...good luck running a 4500lb. SUV on purely solar power). Even if you ran a 1000lb. car on gas it'd still cut emissions in 1/3 to 1/4....you just need to designate small lanes for only these vehicles so they don't get crushed for large cars.

Combine this with creation of our electricity from only renewable sources such as, as your said, solar...but also wind and tidal (tidal, from the ocean as mentioned by another answerer, is more predictable and dependable than solar and creates no toxic waste in generation and disposal of panels). Hydrogen, btw, is not renewably...you need to use large amounts of energy (IE from fossil fuels) to break down water into hydrogen and oxygen...and then more energy to store a decent amount of it in a tank: it's just a scam the oil companies run so they can sell people tanked hydrogen instead of gas and not lose market share.

Lastly...the sad fact is people think owning big things that use a lot of power is a show of their strength and success in the working world. We need to convince people it's more fun to have a tiny car/house...and then use the money saved for things like hobbies and vacations...then to own the terribly inefficient household appliances and cars we do nowadays.

The only way to stop global warming is to create a way to regulate the amount of energy the earth gets from the sun. This is, of course, well beyond the scope of reality, but..

We should build a giant 12,000 mile wide umbrella..

Ok if u stop producing all CO2 would u be satisfied??? The plants need the CO2 as much as we need oxygen . We will die if u kill all the plants. So CO2 is not a pollutant it is Mother nature's way of marking it for recycle.

In order to have any chance of stopping Global Warming we would have to cut world wide carbon dioxide emissions to less than one tenth of what they are today.

We would have to shout down all motorized transportation world wide. We would hav eto ban all automobiles, motorscooters, motorcycles, buses, trucks, trains planes and shipping.

We would have to shut down all manufacturing, steel making and cement making.

We would have to stop the heating and air conditioning of all homes, shopping centers, factories and offices.

We would have to ban the heating of all water for washing and bathing.

We would have to learn to bathe in cold water.

The amount of cuts that would be necessary is not realistic.

Fortunately we can mitigate the effects of Global Warming at reasonable cost.

The sea levels will rise. Low lying areas can be protected from flooding by the use of dike systems similar to those in Holland.

Hurricanes will become stronger and More frequent. We will need to help the poor countries upgrade their disaster preparedness systems.

There will be more droughts. We will need to help the poor countries with supplemental water supplies and desalination plants.

We cannot stop Global Warming, but we can mitigate the effects of Global Warming at reasonable cost.
