In a hospital setting, rectal temperatures are one thing. At home, quite another. No, it's not okay. It's demeaning, humiliating and unnecessary.
I don't recommend you take a temp at the armpit but if for some reason you need to, add one degree to what you see on the thermometer.

It's ok, but unnecessary. I work in the health care field, so I'm speaking from experience on this one. The only times I have had to take a teen's temp rectally is when they are not coherent or mentally disabled and uncooperative.

I would have to say no inless thats the only thing you had, and you had to find out right away. To me that would feel like a violation, and would problay make me feel bad.

why would you want to? don't they just do that on babies because they can't get an accurate read from the mouth?
