Unfortunately, there is a large number of muslims who belong to the wahabi sect. these muslims believe that anyone who is not of their faith is an "infidel" and they have a religious responsibility to kill them. Couple that type of thinking with countries where the general population is largely uneducated and unemployed and you have a situation that is a breeding ground for angry young men who want to lash out at someone or something. Mix in a few people with access to guns, money, and the promise of eternity in paradise and you get suicide bombers. America is a good target because we are prosperous and largely a christian nation. We can be blamed for using up all of the resources and forcing impoverishment on other nations. essentially we make a good scapegoat. MIddle eastern leaders do nothing to dissuade this image because as long as everybody is blaming us for their situation, nobody is watching them steal their country blind. Some such as the Saudi's actually pay the wahabbi sects to make them go away and bother someone else.

It's not always a Muslim, but for the moment, the various forms of media are focusing on it and the region.

For example, South America still has terrorism (more than the Middle East, according to the state department), but South America gets less coverage than the middle east mainly due to world focus.

I should also point out that Muslims around the world condemn terrorism and say it's a sin, but like every religion, a certain minority doesn't follow it properly. Rebels, drug cartels, and government corruption are causing all sorts of problems in South America, but I wouldn't blame Christianity (the dominant religion of the continent). They're just in the media spotlight at the moment. Also, terrorism is on the decline, 2002 had 44% less deaths by terrorism(all types & groups) than 2001.

Muslims make up one sixth of the world population, but they are not the only ones involved with terrorism. Just read about the criminal elements in Latin America, the Anarchy movement in the U.S. at the turn of the 1900s, the KKK and the Oklahoma City bombing.

'Always' is a very big word here. It's not always Muslim. Be careful not to contribute to the racial profiling that is so prevalent today.
