Well, the difference is clear in Italian... while is rather difficult to be explained in English

I love you is similar to "i wish you luck"... It means that i want your life to be the best, and that I'll share with you your feelings, both if they were happy, or unhappy feelings.

To be in love is somehow more egoist; it describes my feelings, but it doesn't necessarily mean the wish to share them with the other.
Love, in this second sense, is also less respectful of the partner... because it's existence doesn't depend on other's feelings. In fact many times it happens just one is in love with the other, while the other doesn't correspond this feeling.

I might say that there is the same difference between being friends and being relatives.

Really that's a challenging question, they're sorta the same thing. Usually saying "I love you" is a reminder that the person cares about you and is there for you, while "I'm in love with you" is more of someone's passion for wanting to be around you and thinking you're the one for them. Even though they have mild differences some people choose to switch the meanings around every once and a while.

You can love a lot of things, like I love eating Tres leches cake or I love being with my friends, but I'm not in love with these things. If I were in love with someone I would feel an undying passion for them, I would never want to be away from them for too long, and whenever I saw that person, my heart would fizzle with joy and gladness. That's the difference between loving someone and being in love with someone. *u*

You can love someone and not be in love with them. I loved my ex but was never in love with him and so it didn't work out. I told him I loved him which was true but I was never in love. I am in love with my husband and I told him I was in love with him even after I said I love you. Sometimes it can mean the same thing but it depends on the situation. The first time I told him I love him he knew I meant I was in love with him.

Ahhhh the young at heart. After you've been with someone for a long time you may not feel that infatuation you felt in the beginning of your relationship. Being IN LOVE means you think about that person 24/7, you are infatuated with them. You want to spend every waking moment with them. After the infatuation wears off and you no longer have those same crazy feelings for the person then you would tell them you love them, and you're still in love with them but it's just not the same. Kind of hard to explain unless you have experienced it for yourself.

Having love for someone: a friend you care about....
Loving someone: family......
Being in love with someone: your partner you share your life with.
3 different feelings and each will tell you over time. Just pay close attention to yourself....you'll know.

The phrase "I'm in love with you" have a greater meaning than "I love you." "I love you" is widely used by everyone in the world and its common to hear it from anyone, even a stranger. "I am in love with you" is less commenly heard and when it comes out of someones mouth it means a lot more. "I'm in love with you" also takes more time and effort to say, just a little tiny bit more but its still more. The concept is basically the same... just the meaning is stronger in one than the other... Hopefully you get the "I'm in love with you!"

You love a close relative, but you aren't "IN" love with them. You could love someone like a brother, or you could be in love with them and want to be with them forever.

the difference is when sum1 says "I love you" then it usually means that they also love sum1 else as well
but when sum1 says "im in love with you" then that person knows that you are the only person they care most about and wouldnt/couldnt imagine themselves with another person

I love you can mean "I'm in love with you" or it can mean I care deeply about you, but not in a romantic way. If your unsure when you hear it, ask the other person to clarify what was meant.
