i m not able to see the pictures of the web sites clearly, but other pictures stored in my laptop are clearly visible. what could be the reason & how can i solve it. I am using windows XP as my OS

Your browser may have images disabled...check into your Options (Internet Options, if it's Internet Explorer) under Security, and see if images are disabled...enable them, if you wish.
