Everyday I see something in the news pointing out a particular weakness in either American defenses or just how easy it is to sneak into or onto supposedly secure sites, Has freedom of the press has been taken a little too far, possibly to the point of treason?

Quite likely. However with a large percentage of our population eating it up and a good percentage of our jurists loving it nothing will come of it. Besides, I do NOT believe our supreme court has the cajones to rule against the media in a treason case given the first amendment rights.

If problems are not brought to light, do you think anybody would do anything about them? There is no faster way I know of to get government to correct a problem than to shine a little light on it. Remember Walter Reed hospital? Nothing happened there until the newspapers and television revealed the problem.

I would rather know that a problem exists and have people working to fix it; than not know the problem exists and nothing being done to fix it and leaving it vulnerable to terrorists.

I suppose it is possible that terrorists are sitting around watching the news, hoping that a potential weakness will be revealed. However, I would hope that government officials are watching the same broadcasts and taking steps to fix those weaknesses.

Checks and balances buddy. We'd be a dictatorship if it wasn't for the media. Yes, they report a lot of b.s. and who cares about Paris Hilton but after filing through all the garbage if it wasn't for the media the government would be raping women and killing men more so then they do now.

They are guilty of managing rather than delivering the news that is for sure. They are guilty of stupidity and not understanding where their loyalties should lay as well. You wouldnt see the news reporting this stuff in 1943

how would it be treason?

it's not a crime to share information that isn't classified. and if the press gets it? they're not the ones who break the law.
