Christians make this claim because THAT"S the gospel. It's something of our own doing. We're simply recipients of God's grace though obedience to that same gosel.
After all: It the "Truth" that sets men free. "Our" Lord affirmed THAT.
"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:32
We are not trying to keep "it" from anyone. In fact, anyone else can know it too......if you want it.
Some people seem to act as if "we're" trying to keep it form them. NOTHING could be further from the truth.

Maybe they don't have enough to do, so they tend to our business and tell us what they think we ought to believe or not believe. They want to force their reality upon us.

Sort of hypocritical, considering some of them tell us that we try to preach to them and tell them they're going to hell, etc.
It seems funny to me that mant\y of the questions here are subtle (and some not so sublte) digs at Christians, thinly disguised as "questions."

We all want to believe that what we think is the truth. For those who have an alternate version, the Christians represent a threat. We live our lives according to our own personal truth, hoping it is the right way. Some of us deceive ourselves in order to justify our wrong choices. If the Christian's truth is the right one, it activates that God given conscience inside and makes us uncomfortable about the "truth" we have chosen. This is true even amongst Christians, we are all capable of deceiving ourselves to justify the desires of the flesh. Real truth cuts like a sword, and that hurts.

You probably have no idea how pompously arrogant you sound, do you.

Non-Christians, BY DEFINITION, do not believe that Christians have the truth. Non-Christians, BY DEFINITION, do not accept the gospels as God's word. Your whole question is based on an ASSumption that doesn't even apply to the people you're asking about.

We non-Christians therefore CANNOT be upset that you know the truth, because we don't believe that you have the truth. However, we *have* be known to get upset by Christians arrogantly making ASSumptions about us.

> Some people seem to act as if "we're" trying to keep it
> form them.

Where do you find such people? Most non-Christians wish that the Christians would just shut up!

What proof is there that the Bible is accurately the word of God? Its been touched by too many human hands, and humans have a funny way of leaking their own beliefs into things.

I dislike the cyclical reasoning of bible followers. It goes something like this:

We know we can trust the Bible because the people who wrote it were guided by the hand of God. How do you know that is true? The Bible says it is. How do you know the Bible is accurate then? Because the people who wrote it were guided by the hand of God....etc.etc...

If God loved us so much why would he desert us in Mans greatest hour of need. Why do we all have to pay for the sins of Adam and Eve? We are not them, are we not measured by our own merits? Shouldn't we all have been given a chance at Paradise? Why will God not speak to us, I think we could really benefit from an open conversation. I beg God everyday to provide me guidance, but he never responds.

Oh you say, 'God helps those, who help themselves' that is so bogus! The people who can help themselves obviously don't need God attention. The people who need His help are the lost ones and sick ones.

Where are you God?

I really don't know what you're talking about. I don't care that you think you know "the truth" about spiritual matters.

No offense, but more often than not the "upset" comes from the supposedly faithful. Many of them seem to have a very tenuous grasp on their faith and religion apparently. Why else get so angry if someone calls themselves an atheist?

We do know the truth but we can't force anyone to believe the truth because it is your own choice to believe the truth. so even though Chritians are f\right some people might not believe but that is their own choice or their own down fall. I know the bible is the truth because it said that all the things that are happening now would happen so all the people saying the bible is a lie are proving that the bible is true because it said that you would so thank you all for helping me prove my point :))!!

Others aren't upset that you believe you know the "Truth". It's the fact that Christians believe their's is the only way and try to push it down everyone's throats.

You just did it here.

(Oh, by the way, I was raised a christian so I do know something about what I am talking about.)

We have a right to our beliefs the same as you.

I believe that all spiritual paths lead to the same end and I have a right to that belief.

I don't try to push what I believe on anyone. So why do christians do that?

2007-07-12 12:25:11 · answer #7 · answered by claire 4 · 3 2

because you have forced your truth down people's throat for almost 2000 years, often in a violent manner. Your "truth" is pure BS to many. Your "truth" holds no more truth than any other faith that claims they know the truth. The thing is we don't want your truth because you have produced a history of racist, violent, misogynistic , child raping psychopaths.

btw i actually studied at a seminary for awhile so your assumptions that all that are critical of you is because they have not read the bible argument is pure crap too. i know more atheists that have actually read the bible than i do christians who have.

Am I upset that you know the "truth"? No, because you don't. You have faith that what you claim to know is the truth. Am I upset about that? No, I applaud your faith.

What I do get upset about is when ANYONE, not just Christians, use that to condemn and villify others, when they insist on forcing their version of truth upon those of us who view things differently.

Keep your "truth" thank you very much. I've got my own and it's working great.

I really am not upset that you claim to have the truth. If it works for you and if you aren't hurting anybody then you have my best wishes.

What I do mind is when a few Christians insist on trying to share their truth with me even after I have told them I don't want it. I also object to being called a bad person and told that I am going to hell.

I'm more than willing to practice the Golden Rule with anybody who will try to do the same for me.
