The Bible said that God made the land and made it firm (Genesis 1:10, Psalm 104). No one has ever seen one piece of land become two. It cannot be re-created in a lab. Doesn't it take faith to believe these things? Why is it taught in public schools?

That is the most rediculous thing I've ever heard. It's science. The Earth's plates move. Fact. There is proof. Volcanoes are formed from them. Just becuase there isn't an instant visual effect, doesn't mean its not real.

There is empirical evidence that it exists. Shifting of land masses has happened and is still currently happening. Science does not contradict religion and religion does not have to contradict science. Those that ignore one or the other are closing their eyes to great joys of learning. God Bless.

Plate tectonics is science, proven by earthquakes and such. However, the ground is still firm.

You seem to be confused about what a theory is vs what a scientific theory is.
Edit:
You guys are aware the question-asker is an atheist, right? :)

Why do some Christians seem to think that their ignorance about science is somehow a valid argument against science?

Because it is science. Not everything you don't understand is religion. Get yourself an education. It will take you far.
