Detroit, MI or Flint MI.

The reason why Michigan is so singled out is because that is where the three major automakers are based (GM, Chrysler, and Ford). When they lose customers to Japanese car makers and Korean car makers that means a loss of jobs for the people in Michigan who manufacture parts and assemble cars. In Detroit, house prices have decreased to about 50% of what their value was a couple of years ago because so many people have lost jobs there and the prices are still dropping. Basically people are abandoning the city.

Michigan's economy was based almost entirely on the auto industry. When those jobs were outsourced overseas, the economy never fully recovered. There's only so much you can do with old rusted out auto plants. Plus, alot of the land has been polluted by industry, and then they leave, which makes their old sites uninhabitable and expensive to fix.

Many northern areas like Michigan that depended on large industry and labor was controlled by the old unions. Corporations moved south or overseas to reduce labor costs, energy costs, and taxes so they could compete.

Hmmm. We all seem to agree on Michigan anyway. My vote was for Detroit.
