Some family close by is selling a 2000 Grand AM. They say it is there cousins. The CarFAX shows it had no issues. Also it looks very nice and taken care of.

The problem is, it is 117k miles on it. Thinking I could get the price down to $3200 and all is well after inspecting it, is it a good deal?

I did check the KBB and the value is $4200 as soon as I found out the exact model the other day.

I advise caution here. Engines tend to get 'touchy' at about this age. Recommend asking a mechanic about the engine before buying. What size is the engine? Are the plugs hard to get to?(if so, it'll cost $300-600 to change them) Is the transmission in good shape?(expensive to change) Does the car have an internal timing chain?(really expensive to change, and usually go out around 115k) Not to scare you. Just be sure to ask plenty of questions, and do a little more research. Good Luck.

I've got nearly that many miles on my 03 Grand Am. I haven't had any serious problems with the car, and it runs great. One thing to watch for, if it has a V6, is a problem with the lower intake manifold gasket. It can fail, and leak oil into the coolant and coolant into the oil. This is a $1000 repair at the dealer, or $200 if you do it yourself. If it hasn't already been fixed, it may need to be.

just by the miles its a 10 year old car. the engine is worn out but if you want to buy it check the blue book value on it and then negotiate a deal. i think no more than 2500.00 with out a deal. ihave a 2000 ford focus with 80,000 miles on it an its only worth about 2500.00

Any high mileage car is always a risk, once a car has past 100k miles anything can go wrong, but if you believe the car was well maintained then go for it

check the kelly blue book value first. but with such high miles, you should be able to talk them down.
