Firstly you should get it looked at by a vet if it is injured.
Then you need to find out if it is someones pet. Ask around and maybe put a poster up.

Hi - you are great to have rescued this little creature!
Do not spend time or money looking for the owner. That is their job. Just keep your eye out to see of anyone is looking for it. Also do not spend money on a vet UNLESS you think the bird has a broken leg. You can examine the bird yourself. If the injuries are not serious, let it heal. If you suspect a cat got it, it must have antibiotics or it will die within a few days. That you need a vet for. Amoxicillan would do the trick.
Seeds are not enough for these birds. They need chopped vegies and some fruit and seeds as a treat.
Good Luck.

A bit of a long reply but hope it is useful. Unless it has any form of identification it would be quite difficult to find its owner. I'm sure his/her owner is very devastated right now. I'm sure I would be. Keep it and provide it with all its needs (and take care of its injury - seek the advise of an avian veterinary). In the meantime, try posting several ads in your local avian paper or put up some notices where his owner might have a good chance of showing up to inquire if it has been spotted. One word of caution....you don't want to hand it to some impostor claiming that it is his bird when in fact it isn't. Never thrust anyone and don't hand it over to the first person that claims it's his bird. Ask questions to check if the bird he claims is his matches that of the bird you found. If you put up ads or notices, don't give away too many details about the birds' identification (like color detail etc.), since you won't be able to filter out impostors. If it is the rightful owner he will tell you all matching details. Like whether it is a female, what color/s it has and the like. If it has a leg band, take note of its details and write them down but keep them to yourself for the moment. If someone tells you that it does not have a leg band, then s/he is definitely not his owner (leg bands don't slip off). On the other hand, if s/he spells out all the details on the leg band, then you can rest assured that s/he is its rightful owner 100%. Take care of the bird and good luck!

Yes, it should go to an avian vet ASAP. With birds you don't want to wait since they can go downhill fast and try to conceal how badly they are hurt.
Also, you should make an honest effort to find the rightful owner. Birds accidentally escape out of houses all the time, leaving their owners with a broken heart. Call local vets and animal shelters, post signs, run ads. If no one claims the bird, and you want to keep it, that is nice of you to give it a home. Read up on proper budgie care. Budgies should be fed pellets, some seed, and fruits/vegetables. Their cage should be cleaned every day.

Take a picture of it, and post some local 'Found: (colour of bird) Parakeet/Budgie. Say where you found it, and to contact your phone # (cell is better if you use is more).
Take the bird to a vet to get it checked over, because you said it was injured. If the injury is serious, (e.g. broken wing), then it will take a long time to heal.
Does the bird seem tame? It may be a feral bird that has escaped years ago and maybe it just got hurt on that particular day.
If nobody takes the bird, you should buy it some perches that have different textures (good for its feet), bird toys, spray millet, and a premium seed mix.
I hope the bird gets better!

found parakeets are usually lost by accident. some child may have left a door open and their little "perky" flew out. once out in the wild , these tame birds are subject to injury by other wild birds or cats. you have rescued it from a sure death. now the question here is, is it going to survive from its injury? if yes, you could try putting up a "found parakeet ad" in your local grocery store or local paper. if there are no replies in a month you can keep it with a clear consience. you also need to check out the care of these birds. i used to have one as a child [also found] and we had to get a cuttle bone and white grit to aid in its digestion also it needs a water container that fits on the side of the cage. hope this info helps.

the same thing happened to me! it was a lost parakeet from someones house and i could tell because its wings were clipped. IT was hiding in a tree where a black bird kept hurting it . i picked it up and brought it into the house and i gave it a good wash then what i did was post posters around my neighbor hood since it couldnt have gone far if its wngs were clipped.Nobady lost it so i kept it, bought it a cage, some toys, and food and now ive had it for 6 months!

Don't worry about mites now. Remove the mirror. Don't waste your time calling vets. Get the bird on heat - NOW. Put a heating pad under the cage on Medium. Put a 40 watt bulb next to where the bird is perched. If it lives over night, give up your phobia and let the bird settle for a day or two. Do NOT spray the bird for lice. You will kill him because he is weakened by stress. Warmth will help. And DO NOT spray unless you see mites. Scalex is the best spray but DO NOT do it for at least a week. Email me off this list. If I am near you I can come get the bird. Bobbie in New Mexico

Take it to a vet IMMEDIATELY. They have a saying about birds, "A sick bird is a dead bird." Birds will hide any kind of injury or illness for as long as possible because in the wild, a sick or injured bird is pushed toward the bottom of "tree" or wherever they are roosting; hence, they hide their vulnerability until they just can't anymore.
They are also small and can easily bleed to death, and easily go into shock.
That being said, birds are fabulous pets, and that is one lucky little bird to have found YOU!

The responsible thing to do is to check the local papers to see if anyone is missing a parakeet and advertise that you found one-keep the details to yourself-color,sex,identifiable markings-that way no one can scam you for a free bird. If no one claims-you got yourself a gift from the sky-enjoy!!!!

I would take it to vet. The bird did belong to someone else, I would put up a few flyers and if no one clams him in a week or so then keep him.
No Grit, it's not neccessary. Fresh vegi's and fruit on a daily basis with fesh water and seed. Purchase a couple of toys as well to keep him busy.
