500 Credit Score

Reportable credit scores run from 300 to 850 with 675 being the national average.

So to answer your question, no 500 is not a good score actually it's really bad.

You can get approved for a car loan and most likely some credit cards but the interest rates and fees will be excessive.

You need to work on bringing your score up, get a credit card and use it for everyday things like gas and food being careful never to exceed 30% of your credit limit in any given month and pay it in full every month before the due date.

I have done this with 2 credit cards for the last couple of years and have raised my score over 150-points.

Credit scores will range from 350-850 with 600 being the average of that. However, a good credit score would be considered anything higher then 650, and an average score will fall between 620-650. Any score below 620 is generally thought to be a bad score.

In answer to your question 500 is not a good score, but if you want to learn a little more about your credit score and your credit reports you should refer to this site: http://credit.privacymatters.com/credit-articles/free-credit-score.aspx, there is a great resource center.

Oh come on, did you really think that a 500 credit score was going to be a good one. You must have already known that you have terrible credit because of maybe not paying your bills or some other negative situation.

Yes you can. However, you will not be able to have any bills in collection. You must have all revolving credit accounts up to date. You must have enough 'available' credit to afford the loan. They are being more stringent now. But if you had made mistakes, corrected them and saved for the down payment. You will be able to find a loan. If you still have accounts in an unfavorable status, likely you will have a very hard time being qualified.

Good luck with that...
