Was thinking about getting some to replace my FastTraks...
Are they suitable for front and rear use?

Or can you recommend something similar for fast XC riding?

A lot of it depends on the trails you are riding. My specialized tyres all slid out from underneath me without warning on hard turns and steep climbs. I put panaracer xc pro's on there and they gripped much better but at the cost of a little extra rolling resistance. I'm in texas on the usually dry, hardpacked/loose stuff.
I'm running UST (tubeless) right now and have wtb weirwolf on the front (that thing grips like mad) and my panaracer's on the rear. Both of these tires give warning before sliding out from underneath me.
Check out http://mtbr.com/reviews/tire/ and find a review of ur tire and see if u can find a reviewer riding on ur type of terrain.

My Hardrock came with the Resolution Pro 2.1 on front and back, they are made for both wheels, and face the same way on both.

They aren't bad tyres to come with a bike, but I wouldn't recommend them for a post-purchase, there's too many better tyres there. They work on in the woods, but as soon as I got some speed up downhill my front wheel wanted to go all over, and I found it a bit too unpredictable. They did hold their own ok on road though, rolling well, but then they are 60a compound, and softer versions would no doubt be quite good off road.

They don't compare to the Maxxis High Rollers I had on my old bike.

I changed to a DMR Moto RT rear and Digger front, and find that they actually behave more predictably in mud (the digger keeps the front solid, and the rear slides predictably) and of course are better on road (for which they are designed.)
