So you don't go through the front windscreen when someone hits you head on. It's been proven that safety belts save lives. Plus, in many places, it's the law.

Personally, I've been in a head on collision, and I would rather have the scar on my neck from the safety belt over major injuries or death.

As others have said there are some very good reasons for wearing a seat belt in a car and I do understand all of them.
What I don't understand is why the State is allowed to give me a ticket for not wearing one.
To my way of thinking ; unless the State can prove that my death or disability will place an unfair economic burden on the State then the State has absolutley no vested interest in what becomes of me and therefore should not be allowed to give me a ticket.
The brutal reality is that even if the State does have a vested interest ,over the long term,my death would be much less expensive to the State than long term health care would be.
The State is not my mother or father nor should it be.
Oh yeah one more thing: The reason I am able to write this at all is because I wasn't wearing a seat belt.If I was wearing a seat belt I would be 35 years in the ground already.
Btw Any argument about a state being concerned about its' citizens' safety and therefore having mandatory seat belt laws is bogus in any state w/ o a helmet law.

My husband worked for his father as a Morticians aid.
He can tell you stories about what the bodies looked like when he had to retrieve them with the coroner. If they wore their seat belts in many cases they lived. Without the seat belts, they were thrown from the car and were severely injured or dead. Many times they were beheaded, mangled beyond recognition, or the bones in their bodies were so crushed and pulverized it was instant death.

The seat belts hold you into the car on impact. They keep you in the seat and away from the glass and dash and from being tossed around the car like a rag doll. Your chances of surviving are 90% better with seat belts.

I thinks if better to wear a seat belt although some people have come up with some interesting arguements as to not wear one. Non supportes of the seatbelt think they can trap you in the car in you hve wreck. I would wear a seat to keep myself from flying thirty feet out the front of your car through you windsheild. I aslo don't want to get caught by the police not wearing a seatbelt

In the United States, it is a law in all 50 states. Another reason is that in a serious accident, such as a rollover, you would be less likely to be ejected from the vehicle. Personally, I think the law is like a motorcycle helmet law, and it should be up to the individual to decide, not the state. But that's not how it is. When I grew up in the 60's-70's, nobody wore seat belts. It was common to remove them altogether or stuff them between the seats. This is how I learned to drive, but for the past 20 years or so, I wear them religiously.

Seat Belt saves lives in so many situations. My room mate was an EMT for a Fire Department, he has never seen a dead person who has worn a seat belt.

Seat belt holds you from getting thrown in the front of the seat, on a front impact, it helps you not have worse whiplash injuries, it helps you from having broken spinal chord injuries(for the most part).

because you really don't want to face the very real possibility of living as a vegetable for the rest of your life or worse, die. Seat belts are placed there to shield us from high impact cases, although it probably depends on where the car was hit. At the very least, anything that has the possibility of saving my life is better used than not at all.

Just wait til you see a pretty young face that hits the windscreen and steering wheel, or the face is sliced by the rear-view mirror?

When a car hits an object... all the people, their heads, necks, and bodies continue in a forward direction.
Please wear your seatbelt, young man.
