For ME to go to heaven, I felt like I needed to be baptized. Jesus himself got baptized and if it is good enough for Him, it is good enough for me... The Bible does say, you must born of the water and of the spirit and to do everything in word and deed, do it all in the Name of Jesus Christ... So I was baptized in Jesus' Name when I was 16 years old... Baptism is for the remission of sins (literally washing away of the sins). To me being saved means living a holy and separated life away from sin and serving Jesus with my whole heart. Praying daily and reading your Bible daily and so much more. Yes, you will know when you are ready to be baptized... Sounds like the Lord is dealing with you over it now, or you wouldn't be asking questions about it.. God bless you and Good Luck.
Edit: Read Dave T's answer above... that is the plan of salvation.

Being saved means-Repenting from your sins, accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and trusting in him.
Being baptized is just a public statement that you are a follower of Christ. Just how a married couple would wear a wedding ring, so would a christian be baptized. It doesn't give you salvation, only grace does. But the bible commands that we be baptized. You should have done it asap after you accepted Christ, but I know some people who wait years. Don't wait, do it now. You know you are ready when you really know the meaning of baptisim.

Even if there is a God (Still haven't seen proof!) I wish you luck getting an answer. Ask a question like this and all the Cults/Sects /Denominations Crawl out of the shadows like crocodiles off a riverbank in search of new prey! Each one is right while all the others are dead wrong! Just look at the answers you have gotten so far. You have some traditional protestants (possibly Baptists or Pentecostals ) one Jehovah's witness and a Mormon. Ever one convinced that ONLY THEY KNOW GODS WILL and that every one else is somehow mistaken. Must be really lucky to be the one that got it right!

Baptism was commanded by Jesus in every instance of salvation. People argue over this all the time. Baptism is a symbol of your PAST sins being washed away and becoming a new creation. Jesus said "If you loved me, you would keep my commands." Isn't it a good idea to be baptized? Jesus also commanded us to spread the news of the gospel and to baptize. If it didn't matter if we were baptized or not, why would He command that?

First of all, do not expect Christians to be Perfect, we are not, most of us never will be, we are still human and on this life's journey.
I was Baptized at 12 years old in our Protestant Church and I was ready. If you believe in God and that Jesus is his Son, then why not get Baptized? We need all the help we can get!
Hope this helps!
Good Luck and God Bless!

NO - baptism is not necessary for salvation, but that does not mean that you shouldn't be baptized. You should, because Jesus commanded it.
If baptism was necessary for salvation, then Jesus would not have told the thief of the cross (in Luke 23:39-43) that he would be with him in heaven. Baptism is only an outward illustration of what has already happened on the inside to save you - your own death and resurrection in Christ.

This really is a hot button issue. I believe that those who accept God's word should follow through with the act of baptism, and there are many places in scripture (which you can clearly see above) that indicate this. I kind of look at it as a final ceremony that establishes a permanent relationship with God, much like a wedding ceremony. It seems like we're kind of short changing God, the most important being in the universe if we put all this time and money into wedding ceremonies, when they are not binding outside of this world, and then not to follow through with a simple command that signifies our commitment for eternity. But don't take my word--or anyone else's word--for it, read the Bible yourself and see if you reach the same conclusion as Father K about the numerous verses he listed.

baptism is a symbolic ritual to represent the cleansing of your soul and the removal of sin. The actual cleansing is a spiritual thing when you accepted Jesus, the baptism is just a physical act that sort of publicly declares that you have been cleansed and you are set apart as a Christian.
I think that you should get baptized but I don't think it is a necessary step, What matters is your relationship with God and your acceptance of salvation by Grace.

I don't think so. I think it is a way to get closer to God by making an additional personal comitment to him. There are certainly examples of individuals in the bible who went to heaven and never were baptized. One being the second criminal who was crucifed next to Christ. He merely proclaimed Christ to be the Son of God and Jesus himself told him that he would be in paradise that day. There was no fancy ceremony or baptism there. I don't think rituals are necessary, just a way to help you act out your commitment to the Lord.

Lol you arleady said you're saved so I guess you really don't believe you need to.
I would recommend it, because it can be very beneficial for your walk with God. However I don't believe it is necesarry. None of the old testament people were baptised yet they were saved by the same Jesus. Also the guy next to Jesus on the cross was not baptised. Here is evidence that it is not necessary for salvation.
