I am very sorry for your loss. I understand what you are feeling. To any child or teenager, often her dog or cat is her best friend. A dog gives unconditional love, loyalty, and compassion. Be glad your dog Beth lived so long. At least you know what has been happening with her. Many mums and dads don't tell the truth about the family pet being dead or put to sleep and say the pet's ran away, the pet's living happily on a farm or other lies to the children. Once the kid finds out what has truely happened to her pet, she may NEVER trust her parents AGAIN! You are truely lucky. http://www.petloss.org is a good website for you and your family. I have an elderly dog named`Ikis. He is 11 yrs old. I know full well he will not live much longer, especially since dispite what I, my mother, and my Grandma are doing (decreasing his food ration, encoriging him to play) he is obese. He also mostly blind and mostly deaf; he`has arthrihtis just to let you know and he still is a happy dog.

Oh, I'm sooooooo sorry for your loss. So sorry. It IS right to put down a pet when it's in that condition. I know you don't WANT to, but you thought of HER and gave her what SHE needed instead of keeping her around because you were being selfish and didn't want her to go. You did the best thing for her and she knew that.

How special that she was born on your birthday!!!! Grieve for her as long as you need. Be with people who will support you and not say 'it was just a dog.' People like that don't know how hurtful that is. 12 years is a long time! I bet you were the best of friends!!!

Just try to remember her for the good memories. How she'd do silly things to make you laugh, how she'd be at your side, how loyal she was, how much she loved you!! You did the ULTIMATE show of love for her by letting her go and not letting her suffer anymore. You need to feel good about that. After years of her showing you her total love, you did the same for her in her last hours.

Feel free to email me if you feel like talking more. I'm just so very sorry, but so proud you let her leave this world with dignity by putting her to sleep. You did the right thing. My heart is so sad for you and your mom.

As the ones that love and care about our pets it is up to us to make that painful decision to let our dog sleep in peace rather than endure more pain...

My heart feels sad for you but you did the right thing.. bet that dog left a few smiles in your heart - you will find them there for all the years of your life... just reach in and grab a smile from her every now and then...

Good Luck

canines can advance very close bonds with one yet another very directly. They advance friendships merely like human beings can and could seek for his or her chum while they desire to play or merely draw close out. I remember one weekend we've been staying at a acquaintances abode with our canines and the resident canines became into scratching at our mattress room door at 4am because of the fact he wanted to play with our domestic dog. they are able to additionally pass over their chum while they at the instant are not around. those people who very own extra advantageous than a million canines can honestly attest to that. while one passes away, the surviving canines will spend days searching for his or her misplaced chum. it is an rather frightening element to work out. If possible, attempt to have on a daily basis play time with the two. in case you and your chum can set up a ordinary, possibly that'll help the husky comprehend that she'll be waiting to work out her chum.

You did the right thing putting her down and it sounds like your dog was very lucky to have you, just as much as you were lucky to have her.

You will get through it, Beth would want you to be happy, so be happy for her.

We put my mothers dog down last month for the same reason, she had blood in her pee and it took her at least 5 minutes to go potty.

I know it was very hard to see your friend go away, but believe me when I say that she thanks you for putting her out of her misery.

I know your pain. I posted yesterday that I had run over my sons cat and we had to put him down. It absolutely broke my heart. It is so hard to deal with. Maybe they have made friends in the heaven! Our cat thought he was a dog anyway!

((((((HUG)))))))))) we both could use that.
