The DMV punched a hole through my expiration date. Is it 4 years or 5 years?

If you get the license renewed, they are good for 5 years from your birthdate. If you get your license on any day that is not your birth date, the license is good for 4 years + the number of days between the date you got your license and your birth date.

So if your birthdate is today, the license is good for exactly 5 years.

if you get your license say on Jan 1, then it is good from Jan 1 of that year to your birth date, then 4 more years.

In CA the license always expires on your birthdate.

ok they just gave you this long answer.. but hopefully mine will be simplier.. lol if you do not already have your permit you have to sign up for drivers education, once you pass that.. enroll in behind the wheel. once you have your enroll slip and have started your first lesson you can go to the dmv and take the written test.. then you have to have your permit for a minimum of 6 MONTHS w/ out any tickets.. ( with a permit you cant drive alone, and have to drive with a licensed driver 25 and older ) then you can get a PROVISIONAL license and you have to have that for 1 YEAR. ( The provisional license is pretty much the same thing as a permit.. you just can drive alone now.. but still have time restrictions ) once you have your provisional license for a year you can get the regular license.. so pretty much to sum it up.. you cant get a license in cali @ 16 w/out going threw all that 1st..
