I hope this helps. G'day from Australia.
You'll never know if you don't ask questions.

Australia:-
The world's smallest continent also the largest island, located southeast of Asia between the Pacific and Indian oceans.

Oceania:-
The islands of the southern, western, and central Pacific Ocean, including Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. The term is sometimes extended to encompass Australia, New Zealand, and the Malay Archipelago.

Australasia:-
The islands of the southern Pacific Ocean, including Australia, New Zealand, and New Guinea.
Broadly, all of Oceania.

New Zealand:-
Independant Nation in the southern Pacific Ocean containing two principal islands — North Island and South Island — and several small outlying islands.
(New Zealand is not part of the Australian mainland.)

The name of the country is Australia. The continent which includes many of the offshore islands and countries such as Timor, New Guinea, the Solomon Islands etc is Australasia. New Zealand used to be included in Australasia and some references still include it.
Oceania is a name given to the islands and countries of the Pacific Ocean. The name has no single definition. Some uses include Australia and New Zealand. Some include the Philippines, some include Papua New Guinea or Japan. Few include Hawaii. Oceania is a convenient name for grouping in international sporting contests such as the World Cup but it is not a continent.

New Zealand is not part of the Australian continent. New Zealand is on a completely seperate continent called Zealandia, which is 93% underwater. Other large parts of Zealandia that are above water are Fiji and New Caledonia.

Australasia is a term often used to refer to Australia and New Zealand together. Oceania usually includes Australia and New Zealand as well as other Pacific Islands, although Oceania sometimes is used to refer to just New Zealand and smaller Pacific Islands.

Hi, Larissa,

It's kind of confusing since different explanations are given. Try clicking on Australia and asking your question on there, then click on New Zealand and ask there. I would hope they would be more consistent with their answers to you.

Chao!

Yes. New Zealand has a population of about two people, one of them always drunk in the wine they make. The rest is sheep. Like Chile, its in the southern hemisphere. Chile however has much better wine and more attractive sheep. Come to Chile instead, which coincidentally, is where I happen to be right now.
