What foods did a mom or another family member used to make that brings back great memories? My family is polish, ukranian, jewish and sicilian so we had all different things made in our house. One of my favorites is what my mom would make when we were sick. My mom would make soft boiled eggs and rip little pieces of bread and put it in a bowl with the eggs chopped up and alittle salt. I still eat it to this day. Whats your favorite?

A CLOSE FRIEND MY MOMS AGE TOLD ME THAT THE SOFT BOILED EGGS AND BREAD THING IS WHAT MOTHERS FEED THEIR BABIES WHEN THEY ARE LEARNING TO CHEW. I KNEW IT WAS MATERNAL.

My Grandmaw would make goulash for all 23 of us when we visited.I know it had macaroni, bell peppers, onion, ground meat, and stewed tomatoes in it.No one has made it like her--ever.I look back and every thing was canned in her pantry, except for her bell peppers and onions. She canned every thing. She had a full house with all her grands visiting. She cooked in a roaster for us..My Mom would be Gumbo and dirty rice, the best ever...Miss them both.

My mom didn't really like to cook, but she had an incredible recipe she called Chicken Continental. My mouth still salivates when I even think about it:
6 servings
3 lbs chickens, cut-up fryer
1/2 cup seasoned flour
1/3 cup butter
2 cans cream of chicken soup
1/4 cup grated onions
1 teaspoon salt
1 dash pepper
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1 teaspoon dried celery flakes
2 cups instant rice
2 cups water
Place chicken and flour in large bag, shake to coat.
Brown chicken in butter. Remove and cover.
Stir soup, water and seasonings into drippings. Bring to a slow boil.
Place dry rice in 3 quart covered casserole dish.
Stir in all but 1 cup of soup mixture.
Place chicken pieces on top and pour remaining cup over all.
Bake, covered at 375F for 40 minutes.

My mom used to make us pancakes shaped like Mickey Mouse. She would pour batter into a big circle then add two little circles on top to make the ears. Also, she would so teddy bear ones. Same idea, but with legs! What fun!

My mom used to make macaronni and cheese with hot dogs cut up in it. Not gourmet but so yummy to a kid. Dad used to put fluffer nutter sandwiches in my lunch box (marshmellow creme and peanut butter) or chef boyardee beef ravioli. Friends loved to sleep over because my mother made these awesome chocolate chip pancakes. Of course, in between these special occasion foods, my parents encouraged healthy eating but when I think about them, I think about being a kid;-)

My mother was Chinese but raised in Peru, so she would make chinese/peruvian food.
Chicken with shitake mushrooms aka in spanish Pollo con ongos. Papa a la huicaina aka Potatoes in garlic cheese sauce, so good.
For breakfast she would chop up hot dogs and cook it with eggs and onions.
I make these dishes when i miss her a lot.
