Olives are a fruit. The definition of fruit has nothing to do with having a sweet flavor.

Here's the definition, from Answers.com

"The ripened ovary or ovaries of a seed-bearing plant, together with accessory parts, containing the seeds and occurring in a wide variety of forms."

Later in the definition, an alternate meaning says "usually sweet", but that is, of course, not a requirement.

Tomatoes...

i always thought of it as a vegetable, after all when u order a sub or whatever and they ask u what veggies u want thats on their list

i would say a vegetable as it grows on a vine but i would be wrong
