We could stop airing reports like the one I saw on the news this morning..stating that DESPITE our 6 year presence in the middle east, The Tali ban has actually GROWN , MULTIPLIED, And become STRONGER. That despite the 3500 US men and women who died to prevent terror, another 9-11 type attack is guaranteed. It's just a matter of when. Imagine how discouraging that would be to hear, if you were the soldier, in that desert, missing your family?

I don't know how we can help exactly but some things I would imagine helpful would be:

*Sending Care Packages

*Sending Encouraging Letters and Letters of Thanks

*Treating them well and meeting medical and psychological needs upon they're return.

*Providing support to the families living with the stress of knowing they're sons and daughter may not come home

* FINDING A WAY TO GET OUT OF IRAQ WHILE STILL PROTECTING OUR FREEDOM AND FIGHTING TERRORISM*

Pay raise, bring them home, get them every medical support they need after they get back home, help their families with paperwork they are really suffering, injured soldiers need to get paperwork done quickly, they are waiting so long. Soldiers getting out from the service looking a long time for another job. Help them, don't treat them badly, they was suffering for their country in this missions.

Write your congressman and demand a pay raise that is trickle up instead of down. As it stands, any pay raises have always benefitted most those who least need it. Our generals and admirals get an increase of $3,000 a year while the lowest enlisted gets about $15. Those flag officers NEVER wait for housing to become available and yet, dependent upon which base you're talking about and the rank of the enlisted, they sometimes must wait for over a year to get what has been deemed "substandard."
I know that communications capabilities have greatly improved since my say, but I cannot begin to tell you the amount of stress imposed because of deployments and low pay.

other than the obvious of getting them out of a danger that they should not be in (which is to say defending a foreign country that is not ours to defend), i would say that the best you can do is to send money to the commissary for them...did you know that even soldiers deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan have to BUY THEIR OWN MEALS?!? and socks...a soldier can never have enough socks
