I'm thinking of working full-time, but what puts me off is the possibility of coming home late at night (might not be very safe) and walking about the streets at night. Any advice?

Yes. Learn self-defense or stay home.

Wow.....you're thinking of working "full-time"? That's awesome, such a step-up the business ladder. Let me give you a few pointers. #1 Try working a day job..you'll get home before dark. (i know, that was a good one!!) #2 Try a can of mace or a self-defense class!! (I know, I sound like Barbie!)
# 3, Try getting a grip! Millions of people work in all kinds of conditions, return home in all kinds of hostile enviroments, or..perhaps they don't even have a job because of their country or governments political crisis. So...if your so scared that you are willing to bare yourself to the internet world...I suggest you seek some help, or perhaps a good body guard or two.

Always be aware of your surroundings. You could take some self defense courses...carry some mace...or even get a concealed weapons permit.

Carry a can of mace. That would stip any attacks, God forbid.
