evaporated....DUH!

2007-07-12 03:05:17 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 1 3

All the water that covered the earth at the time of the flood is actually still here. It is all below ground. SCIENTISTS have calculated and determined that there must have been a geological force (G~d) that moved all the water from below the earth's surface to the top, spewing it out as a bunch of very large geysers. the water then fell and covered the earth (land) and slowly receded back to the places that it came from. It took a while for the salt and fresh to separate again, (I assume) but that couldn't have been much of a problem for Noah and his family.
And the reason no one believed him, is because he told everyone it was going to rain, and it had never done that before, so part of the water that covered the earth is also in the clouds, as a water vapor.
Many of the "myths" that we talk about from the Bible, are being proven by scientists every day, just keep watching and waiting,

The possibility that the earth before the flood was a more symmetrical shape, and because water weighs about 8.44 lbs. per gallon just the weight of the water could of caused areas of the earth to sink which caused deep valleys and other areas to push up causing taller mountains is a possibility. Also remember that the earth is 72% covered in water to an average depth of two and one half miles.
If you think about what the early Believers thought including Jesus then you might be able to survive and live where you can question Noah on a personal level. For Jesus said at Mathew 5:5 that the meek would inherit the earth, and his forefather king David said the same at Psalms 37:9-11,29.
If you take the time to seriously study man's history book you will find out that it also is an instruction book. The verse's that were quoted are in agreement with God's plans to finish his work of making this our home forever, but void of the evil ones and things. gemhandy@hotmail.com

If people want to beleive its true, then they can; the Bibles up for interpretation.

Im Catholic, and I beleive that a lot of the stories in the Bible are metaphors. Each has a lesson your sussposed to get out of it. Like Noahs Arc, or even Genesis.

God made the sun on like the 3 day right? Well how were there 2 days before then if there was no sun? There cant be a day without a sun. So some people might beleive God created the Earth in 7 days, I beleive that those "days" are metaphoric and the Earth was created over millions and millions of years like science tells us.

Ok, so it evaporated. Where did the water vapour from the evaporation go? It isn't there now. Don't tell me it formed into clouds either. If it did, the clouds would have been so thick, no light could have reached the surface of the earth and everything would have died.

So what happened to the water? We are talking about an 8km depth over the entire planet if Mt Everest was covered. That's 8km above the current sea level. It couldn't sink into the earth, the aquifers would have already been filled with the flood waters. It couldn't evaporate so where is it?

The amount of water required to cover the whole earth has been calculated and the conclusion was there was too much to get rid of after the flood making the flood unlikely. However this calculation was carried out by scientists.

Now for the Christian theory. Instead of covering the whole earth up to the depth of Mount Everest why don't you lower all the mountains and raise all the sea beds so the flood would only have to be about 6 metres deep. Then when the flood time is up raise all the mountains and lower all the sea beds. Think it is ridiculous. Remember that we are talking about God here and He created it in the first place so shifting a few mountains is nothing to Him.

Given the earths atmosphere, you may also ask where it came from. The trends being set by recent weather should give you a clue...and the melting ice caps we have now...There is more than enough water to cover the earth in the ice caps and the clouds.
By the way...do you think it might be a good idea to build an Ark now?
Best wishes, Mike.
Hey Zeppelin..In the Old Testament, God interfered with many things...in the New Testament he shows only His Grace, Mercy, Forgiveness and Understanding.
Best wishes.

Hi!

I think your question is really two questions! ...ie:

(1) ....... 'If the story about Noah is true,'....

It is NOT true, although it does have its origins in ancient history, long before the jewish translation!!

(2) .......'Where did the water go'?

Any flooding that happens, happens just like today, the water is absorbed into the earth & ends up either being evaporated back into the clouds or it finds its way back to the sea, back into the great water cycle!

good question.

1st point -

Those who say it evapourated are foolish. Water goes around in a cycle, it would keep coming back down and the world would keep flooding, which it doesn't (yes, I know places flood, but not the entire globe at the same time).
The only possible arguement you could give is that it became the sea, but then see my second point...

2nd point -

If the water from the flood became the sea, then there must have been very little or no water in the world prior to the flood (as ALL water evetually flows to the sea). This would mean that God had to CREATE billions of litres of water seperately. I am aware that an omnipotent being COULD do such a thing, but Christians have told me that God doesn't interfere with the laws of nature HE created. So which is it?

EDIT: I recommen everyone read Spawnee's answer. I never thought of all that.

Georgiansilver - so God DOES interfere? then you have just proved to me that NUMEROUS 'Christians' don't even understand their own religion, as they have told me he doesnt. Thanks.

The story about Noah could not possibly be true. It is just a copy of the Sumerian tale about Utnapishtim and a deluge. You see one major objection to the Deluge tale in general. Scientists calculate that it would take 3.5 times more water than exists on Earth to submerge the highest mountains under 22 feet of water as the Bible says. Mt. Everest is tallest at a bit over 29,050 feet, I think. We have the problems of where would so much water come from and where would it go. There are no sensible answers to these questions. Some believers glibly try to find answers, but they are careless with the truth to support their beliefs.

Global Warming!
That aside, Noah must of been one very clever person to have saved all the animals given that salt water fish wouldn't have survived in all that rain water. How did he keep the temperatures warm enough for say iguana's, yet cold enough for polar bears? If he only took a couple of each animal on board, how did he feed the cheetah's after the two gazzelle and the two zebra's had gone? How come we still have gazzelles and zebras? How did he get the Amazon Green Tree frog all the way from South America to the Middle East?
