things at home would have to be really bad for the court to take your kids. call legal aide if you can't afford a lawyer. the law is specific about issues regarding custody. if they have started litigation, you need a lawyer. good luck!

I know for a fact that Grandparents have rights, but it depends on the State that you live in and its a major court case in some Cities. I would do a search online and get a good lawyer, especially if the Judge is friends with your in-laws. No matter what, unless you have demonstrated being a little less than responsible when it comes to your children, they are your kids and under no law is someone allowed to come in and take them from you. You really have to get a good lawyer to protect you and your family. I wish you luck. This, I'm sure, is NOT easy!

Go speak with your county attorney before going to court. If you can't afford an attorney, the judge will appoint one to represent you at no cost.
To be honest, no judge is going to take the kids away unless you are unable to provide for them. It sounds like the grandparents are just trying to step in because they see a desperate situation and are afraid for the kids' welfare. The kids have to have a safe place to live and food to eat and they have to get to school. If you do lose them, it will be temporary only, and you should be granted visitation. You'll need to work hard, save your money, and get back on your feet. Once you do and you can show you have a fit home and can provide for the kids, visit the county attorney's office and petition the court to get your kids back.

if a judge is doing something as serious as considering putting the children into their grandparents' home, the situation must be worse than you describe...? i can't imagine a judge ripping kids away from their parents, just because of financial problems -- are they getting proper nutrition and everything they have to have? medical care?
i dont' want you to lose your kids, either, hon. i feel sooo sad for you.
have you talked to any legal services about this? some communities have free legal services. perhaps check into it.
i'm sending hugs and good thoughts your way. i truly hope everything works out.
take care of you. hugs

sounds like really really bad. the only advice would be get a really really gooood laywer. for whatever reasons they do it, it seems to be wrong. but if a judge allows it, they can do almost everything, and can get away with it. sometimes a judge is like a god, just ask paris hilton, she knows. the reasons are within the family i assume, maybe your mother in law is mad about the family or feels down or whatever and wants to show everybody how rich and powerful she is, who knows. all i can say is fight as hard as u can. they are your children after all.

depends on how many judges are in your town, if one, then they can probably lie about it and take the kids away,
talk to the sheriff
