What is so hard about reading "10 Items or Less" or "20 Items or Less" signs at the Express lanes at Wal-Mart? Do they just not care or are they selfish or what?

They are either illiterate or aren't very good at math.

Or they are so self absorbed they do not care how many they have, and they know the employees cannot really deny their services (unless the employees have a kick butt supervisor backing them up) or they will make such a stink about it that the employee will get yelled at by higher ups.

They don't care about signs, unless its a sale sign or FREE. Hours of operation, no smoking, etc. Customers don't read them.

because they assume that line will be shorter and it will benefit them..screw the people behind them in line that actually have 10 items or less! the best thing ever was when i was at the grocery store about a month ago and it clearly says 10 items or less and some guy went in and had over 30 items by the look of his FILLED cart. so the cashier rang up the first 10 items she was given and then said "ok ur total is ....." and the guy looked confused and said he wasnt done and she looked him in the eye and said "u are in this lane! this is 10 items or less so u can either purchase these 10 items and get back in line and we can repeat this process until ur transaction is finished or u can follow the rules like everyone else and wait in line" the guy looked so mortified and angry and actually went to complain to the manager! i was happy he left cuz i was 2 people behind him and all i was buying was kittylitter.

p.s the manager obviously didnt do anything but lecture the man about how selfish and inconsiderate it was that he would tie up the express line like that haha KARMAS A BEYOTCH

I would say both, I had an argument with a woman at the checkout once, in the express lane, twelve items or less it was, and she was raving on about how slow it was and there should be more people on checkout, etc etc. The checkout chic was one of the best operators in the store, I frequented this store regularly. I stood up for the operator stating it was the fault of head office, not hers personally. Then when it was her turn, I counted her items and stated that it took so long probably because of persons like herself who had three more than the required number. She offered to meet me in the car park to continue the argument, to which I agreed, she flew out to her car and took off. I am not normally violent, but think bullish like this is so totally unnecessary as they bring this sort of thing upon themselves, the staff usually do the best they can, with what they are given. Go figure!

Because they don't care. Even at this local grocery store where they have the U-Scans and it says "20 items or less" people have cart-fulls of items. The person in charge of this area doesn't say a word or anything.

Most of it has to deal with "the customer is right". But in this case they arn't.

But at my local Wal-Mart there arn't that many lanes open so people just go to one that is open.

Selfish, arrogant, they think their time is worth more than yours or mine. I think the registers at the Express Lanes should be set up to stop scanning at the designated number of items for that lane, but I guess that's not a very nice thought either.........

i have did that a couple of times.........perhaps it was selfish.........i don't make a regular habit of it. But if the clerk is standing their and there is immedate accses what is wrong with it if there isn't a line? the premisses of buying at stores IS first come first serve. And after i have did that, a few times when i have a big load of grocries , I have allowed to let other shoppers go a head of me with only a few items, too.

Because they are lazy and rude. I had some women in front of me on the express lane with 24 cans or something of cat food and when people complained she shot back " I only have one item!" People make up their own rules for their own convenience.

Lots of times people are just selfish, but I think there are a few times where it is an honest mistake. You could always say something to the person -- if they are smart, they would at least pretend it was an honest mistake and move to the appropriate line.

They might be selfish...but I think some are trying to prove a point that Walmart (or wherever) do not have enough people to work in their REGULAR checkout lines. It is so frustrating shopping and there are four or five lines open and two of them are express......all with loads of people waiting too. Frustrating!!!

It's because they are ignorant, selfish and they just can't count. I make it a habit to point it out to them (loudly) that they should be an another lane.
