I am a church secretary and our pastor will not marry anyone that he hasn't had meetings with. A component of the meetings is a discussion on faith. If he doesn't feel that faith is an issue to the couple, they are referred to a judge or justice of the peace. Using a church for a venue or backdrop is weird.

I think most women dream about having their wedding in a church. The term walking down the "aisle" is derived from the church. I hate weddings that are not in a church and I'm not even religious. It just doesn't feel like a very big deal or as important when it's on a golf course or on the beach or something.

Why would anyone who wasn't a waterfall jumper get married at Niagra Falls? Because they WANT to! It is beautiful and convenient. Churches are also convenient, and often beautiful. Besides, if one or both of them believe in God, then there is nothing hypocritical about it. They just want to show that God is a part of their marriage vows. Don't have to attend church to be religious.

It doesnt matter... the one who isnt christened can get baptised prior to the wedding. Also .. in England you are required to go to church for a certain number of weeks prior to your wedding.
It doesnt matter weather you go to church or not... Its your belief in god that matters.... you can pray just as well at home as you can in church... In reality the church is there as a guidance for you and not a must. I am sure when we get to the pearly gates St Peter wont be asking " how many times did you go to church then"

I don't think that it matters where you get married a church is nice. You don't say that you are atheist, just not church attenders. I would go with the church if that is what you both want, do what makes you both happy.

I can see if they don't attend church but still believe in God that they would get married in a church, but if they don't even belieive in Him then that is strange.

Why would it be hypocritical to invite God to your wedding? Aren't you being judgemental?
Besides, why not have a large wedding in a place equipped to handle crowds?

that really isn't your call to make is it. they could know the priest personally or be related. if they want to marry i nfront of god than that is their choice. you don't know if they have plans or not to start going to church. don't judge....especially soneone else's beliefs. just be happy for them. if you chose not to go to the wedding it would be a shame to go for this reason. it is hypocritical...sorry.
