Coming over from Ireland, all you really need is to make sure your student visa is in order. As an older student, you can look into Columbia University's School of General Studies which is designed for students that have taken gap year(s) before university. NYU has a similar program called the McGhee Undergraduate Degree for Adults. Fordham University's College of Liberal Studies is also designed for adult students; Fordham has a strong Irish/Italian/Spanish Jesuit tradition. All of these are private universities and can be quite expensive.

There is the option of City University of New York, which is publicly funded and has lower tuition costs. CUNY has 11 colleges that award bachelor's degrees, the better known are Hunter College, City College, Brooklyn College, Queens College, and Baruch College. I would say out of all the universities in NYC, the CUNY schools have the highest population of older students as well as part-time/evening students who are working adults.

Good luck with your studies, wherever you decide to go.

NYU and Columbia University. What you can do is download skype at skype.com and then google NYU. NYU Student Resource Center
60 Washington Square South, Suite 210
New York, NY 10012 Tel: 212.998.4411 Fax: 212.995.4305 Hours: Mon. - Th., 9am-9pm; Friday, 9am-5pm EST Class Intercession Hours: Mon. - Fri., 9am-5pm ESTand Columbia University
2960 Broadway New York, NY 10027-6902
General Information: (212) 854-1754

Then contact the admissions office of each college with your computer. Use Skype Out and put $25 on Skype. Dont forget to use a headset mic for clarity. Make sure the timezones match so when you call they are available. They will explain what you cant understand or download off their websites. Let them know your age and schooling background. You should get alot of help. Also like someone else said, make sure your VISA is right or ask how can you go about getting one.

I wish you luck and a good education if you make it here...

You can explore a lot of options online. I suggest that you go on Google to find out the contact information about New York colleges and then contact them directly. There is nothing special or different you have to do in regards to your age. The more important thing you must do is to have all documents for studies you have completed so far so that the colleges can assess if you can apply for certain programs. A quick search on Google.com revealed the following article. The university or college will have a department to answer all questions regarding international students.

omg yes! going to NYU is my top dream and priority in life. its extremely hard to get into and on the borderline of ivy league. since you are from Dublin and are a mature student you do have a better chance of getting in. they are especially good in the arts center but also have a good Stern business school. yes, i have done my research as i am not even near the age of going to college yet.
