Maybe you could take someone with you or confide in someone there that will understand and be there to help you. A better idea would be to stay away from gatherings where drinks will be present untill you are better at leaving it alone. But that is a hard thing to do. And all the people saying --just don't drink,-- are bubble brains. (sorry people) . But it doesn't work that way. So I would recomend confiding in someone you trust to help get you through the day..

Drink O duals or a nonalcoholic beverage, it has the same taste but then you are not getting trashed. I am sure everyone will support you also if you just say "hey, I am not drinking" believe me I know how it goes. I usually just grab a soda off the bat and when someone asks, I just tell them the truth. You can still have a good time not drinking!! good luck at the party.

Your family should be supportive of you and provide non-alcoholic drinks, but in case they don't take something for your self and enough for others who may not want to drink.
Congrats on cutting down. You will find you can still enjoy parties without being wasted. Find others who are not drinking and stay close to them.

If you are afraid that 1 will lead to 10, you might look seriously at AA's website, and start going to meetings. Don't try to fight this on your own. There are meetings going on all over the world, every day, and you can get to one.
In addition to AA's program--which involves total abstinence one day at a time--there is a program called Moderation Management. It's for people who want to curtail their drinking.
AA's website:
www.alcoholics-anonymous.org
Moderation Management's:

Ask someone you trust to keep an eye on you and stop you from drinking too much. Or, if you're too scared, to stop you from drinking at all.
Stop and count to ten before pouring a drink if you find yourself about to, and don't fall for the voice in your head that's saying it'll be OK.

Attend an AA meeting in your area just prior to going to the party. Get the name and number of a sponsor and call him if you feel like taking a drink.

Im not trying to make light of this because this is a serious problem but, find something else other than alcohol that makes you happy.... like... in my case... Mountain Dew, bad as hell for ya, but keeps me away from the alcohol.... I love it... I drink a 2 liter a day... terrible for me, but it keeps me away from the booze............

You certainly have my empathy! I really understand. I think doclakewrite had a good answer. You just have to discipline yourself and be happy with what you do drink. It helps me to think of my blessings when I feel the urge. We cannot keep hurting ourselves! Good luck to you.

I drink tonic on ice, it gives you a little different taste than pop or water so you can enjoy something different.
