Depends what stage you are at. If you're a beginner - I'm guessing you are - just try learning as many songs as possible. You can download chords and / or tabs for just about anything you enjoy listening to, so choose I few that you really like and go for it. Start with a few easier ones then extend your range as you go.

If you're really into it, time won't matter.

Routines differ with the individual. Perhaps one of the best times for serious practicing is in the morning right after you get up. The fingertips are dry and are ready for the strings and your mind is often cleared.

Of course, set aside a time in the evening hours to practice seriously for a while and then play things comfortable for you. Above all, keep your calluses thickened and your dexterity sharp.

I praise you for asking about a routine.

As with any instrument, warm up. Do this with scales, or run through some progressions. Make sure your fingers get used to moving around on the fingerboard and arranging themselves. If you have a teacher, ask for etudes to make you technically better; do not neglect your right hand.

Then move on to songs. If starting a new one, read through it, whether it be tabs or whatnot. Think about what it sounds like, what you want it to sound like, what it should sound like.

Good luck!

if you are learning, i would strongly advise you DONT download chords and tabs. i started doing this a few years ago when i was highly accomplished as a player and it totally ruined it for me. when i was learning i would sit for hours on end listening to songs and trying to work out the chords and music. the time i took to do that meant i learned it properly but after i started simply down loading them i lost the ability to retain the information and now i cant play or sing anything with out the words and music in front of me.

Get some glue, and glue your head to a lamp post. This will prevent isolation which is good, but ruin your hair...which is bad!
