My daughter loves shoes, but only to play with them. If she has to wear them for a long time, she's always trying to take them off. Since it's summer, she's mostly barefooted anyway. I wouldn't waste money on some high quality shoes unless it is for a medical reason.

I am not familiar with "trainers", but I used to work in a department store selling children's shoes, and I could tell you that buying shoes that are especially made for little feet are preferred (Stride Rite etc..) because it is better for their bone development. However, if your child is not wearing shoes especially made for her foot at "all" times, it is fine. As long as she wears them about 60 - 70 % of the time that is sufficient enough. It is actually also good for children to walk with bare feet sometimes. If she has been walking for a while - it really is not that crucial. The most crucial time is when they first start pulling themselves to stand and take their first few steps because it is at that time that they are acquiring the ankle support they need. Hope this puts your mind at ease!

At 2 yrs old, sneaker style shoes are fine as long as they fit properly.
The shoe issue really is for pre-walkers and very early walkers. Firm soled shoes interfere with the child's natural ability to learn to balance and thats why they want little ones to wear just socks or those soft leather shoes (like Robees).

A 2 yr. old needs a shoe that supports the ankle really well, therefore when she gets older her ankles will be much stronger are more likely not to turn as easily than shoes that don't have the support. I have a 26yr. old and a 21 yr. old and I made them wear striderite walking shoes long after they had walked just for that purpose, they didn't always look the best but, it saved their ankles and feet in years to come. good luck. You can always let her wear other shoes that look good to church or to go out.

I don't even know what trainers are, Hon. Are they like sneakers/running shoes? I don't think those would be bad for her feet, as long as they have hard bottoms. My babies haven't had hard times with their feet, and that's usually what they wear.
Take care.

Shoes don't help infants walk, their feet do ! Most children develop just fine w/o wearing special shoes. My children didn't wear shoes to learn how to walk. I only put shoes on them to go outside or out in public, but my little one takes them off ! Save your money and let the little one's go barefoot they have a lifetime to wear shoes.

If you are talking about those ugly white high top shoes for babies, then I would not waste the money. I have never used them for my kids and they have never had a problem with their feet. My youngest is 22months and she is always taking her shoes off!!

It is not the best, but she should be ok as long as it isn't often that she wears them. You may have to hide them when she goes to sleep.
