I know one end will go into the USB port on my computer, but what is the name of the end that goes into the camcorder? DV cord, Firewire? What would be the exact name of this cord so when I go to the store they know exactly what I'm talking about? I have a Sony HandyCam. Thanks

There can be two type of connectors - USB or i.link/firewire (aka 1394). If you plan to use USB, then you need to buy a USB cable with standard PC connector at one end and a mini 5 pin connector at the other.

Since Hi8 is analog, it is extremely unlikely there is a built in digital output connector. You need to get an analog video capture card for your computer which may plug into an internal bus, or be external using USB connection. Then use the A/V cord supplied with the camcorder.
