For once, I'd like to see people working together regardless of their belief system instead of destroying each other in the name of religion. Somehow I don't think that'll happen in our lifetime though.

The ecological role of a parasite requires it to reproduce successfully, which means that at least in the short term it must maintain the health of its host sufficiently not to wipe itself out. So whereas there are parasites which encourage their hosts to be eaten by a second host, they do at least succeed in passing on their genes. We aren't going to do that because we will become extinct without perpetuating the species, so no, we aren't parasites. Also, the world can recover from anything we can do to it. In the past it's been hit by asteroids repeatedly, the atmosphere and oceans have been poisoned, ice has covered it almost to the equator and up to 96% of life has died on numerous occasions. Mere human activity is nothing compared to that.

So how are atheists cruel and borderline sadistic? It's cruel to challenge you to think about what it is you claim to believe? It's cruel to tell you that we're no longer going to tolerate your bullying and your elitism and your forcing the entire world to live their lives according to your beliefs?
No one can hold a candle to the cruelty and sadism that religion has wrought upon the world. Nothing can even COMPARE to it. Atheists aren't the ones flying planes into buildings. Atheists aren't the ones who have throughout the course of history jailed, burned, stoned, hung, crushed, drowned, and tortured people for not sharing our beliefs. We aren't the ones holding up progress in science and medicine that can save millions of lives. We're not the ones denying loving couples the right to marry. We're not the ones telling people that they deserve to be sent to Hell and tortured for all of eternity because they don't share the same beliefs as we do. You talk about PARASITES? We're not the ones who have infiltrated every aspect of society, and forced others to live according to our outdated nonsensical religious dogma.
Save the "we're so persecuted and victimized" rhetoric. We don't want to hear it. No one in history has a monopoly on persecuting others the way that religion has and still does.

I have been visiting Yahoo R&S for awhile and I really haven't seen too many cruel or sadistic atheists, unless having someone contradict your beliefs with logic is cruel. Sure there are some but so are some theists. Like how about saying atheists are parasites?! How about a theology that says even if you were a great person if you don't worship our God or accept our Savior you will burn in Hell for eternity?? That sounds pretty cruel, hateful, and sadistic to me.

We would, but the religious people keep interfering by committing gross acts of stupidity like holy wars, trying to get Creationism or Intelligent Design into school curriculums, giving holidays willy-nilly to celebrate fictitious events and imposing their bizarre world view on rational people everywhere.
And sadistic as compared to who? Your christian President Bush who blows up his own people to justify a war on "terrorrism" that is a response to his invasion of another nation? Your christian pastors who take the money of their faithful and blow it on homosexual, drug-crazed orgies? Compared to that famous Roman Catholic, Adolf Hitler, or the Papcy that tacitly supported his actions?
If cruel is dealing with reality on the basis of rationalism and logic, then I'm a cruel atheist. If deluding millions with the false beliefs and doctrines of religion into a life of thralldom, fear and compliant submission to contradiction, lies and social control is not being cruel, I am happy to be called cruel.

Yeah, cuz the crusades and other extremists are just dandy ideas. When was the last time we had a war that athiests started to cleanse the world of religion as a whole? I thought so. I think you're directing your anger where you shouldn't. Aim it toward your own sect.
