If you have had a experience with God, then what's the purpose of faith. To me, this is like saying that you need faith, or it's just a belief that your mom gave birth to you.

If you know God exists and have personally experienced the Divine, wouldn't that destroy any doubt?

Good point Karen F, I meant to direct this question towards those who have claimed they have experience God but always speak of him/her in terms of faith and belief.

Maybe it should be that you need faith that you will become enlightened or "saved" in this lifetime, that makes more sense. Faith and belief suggests that there is a possibility that God doesn't exist. Perhaps faith is needed to make sure you are on the right path, but again my point was pertaining to belief and faith in GOD.

What is prayer or meditation without faith, or believing that your prayer or meditation is working. I know you asked for no quotes but Credere est orare, Orare est cognescere, [To believe is to pray, To pray is to know.] What is the point in praying if you don't believe in prayer? What is the point of life if you don't believe in purpose. What is the point in talking if you don't believe that it is better than silence. Faith is synonymous with everything you do. If you flip a light switch you have faith that the light will come on. Otherwise what is the point in flipping the switch?

I would like to quote and then explain. But I have found that if I do something in faith, it is confirmed that I am in God's will, as there is an inner peace.

The Children of Israel less than two months after walking across the Res Sea on dry ground, built themselves a graven image, and worshiped it. They had experienced God in much more than only prayer or meditation. I thought this awful strange until I'd looked at my own life, at some of the ways that I had seen proof of God, and the doubts that I still had.
He spoke to me audibly one time. I have seen people miraculously healed. Things have happened in my life over the years that just don't happen like a landlord still trusting me when I am five months behind in the rent, and then being able to pay that back with only a slight change in income. To top this all off, I broke my arm last November, and was miraculously healed the next day. Still a few weeks later I caught myself doubting.
Yes, we still need faith.
Neh 9:16 But they and our fathers dealt proudly, and hardened their necks, and hearkened not to thy commandments, 17 And refused to obey, neither were mindful of thy wonders that thou didst among them; but hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage...
I think it all hinges on being mindful of thy wonders.

In all religions, faith is a pivotal thing, not just for christians. Faith gives us something to hold on to when all hell breaks loose.
If you have had a personal experience with your God, then that should make your faith and belief STRONGER.

If you don't have faith, if the dead were to rise from their grave, it wouldn't change your heart. If pigs sprouted wings and began to fly around, but you had not faith, then you'd deny it had anything to do with GOD.
If you have faith the size of a grain of mustard seed . .. all things are possible.
-LOVE your nieghbor as yourself.
Amen.

Are you really sure that who you experienced was really God? Many people have uplifting experiences but the only way to the One True God is to listen to or read the Gospel as it pertains to Jesus dying on the cross for our sins and His resurrection. Believing that what is said about Him is true and repenting of your sins. Then, you can receive God's Spirit in you, called the Holy Spirit and He will lead and guide you from then on. Before that process, you do not really know where your prayers are going or who is really answering them. The great deceiver is just that! The great deceiver. He will mislead you down paths that seem right to you. Until you discover, they have lead you to death! God bless and may you find Him.
