G'day,

I'm an immigrant who have been living in Melbourne for over 16yrs.

IMHO, what make Australia the best country on earth is simply put... the people. Of course in the beginning it was just convicts, but NOW... everyone who are able to stay will stay and live in Australia, some even live here illegally. Just to prove how good the place is :)

I continually knew we had the main exciting... the undeniable fact that almost 40% of those employed referred to as in a sicky on Australia day style of reinforces the factor, does not it :) Binge eating, swearing, intercourse scandals, oh my! @Teapotistic Pastafarian : you're welcome to connect the social gathering any time :)

There are too many reasons to include here.
The most important reason is:
Australia is great because it's full of Aussies.
We are a pretty good bunch of people.
(But I'm biased.)

"perhaps it's because it's full of the ancestors of all of Englands lowest form of criminals."

The lowest forms stayed in England and were hanged. Their descendents still live in England. Before England started sending the better convicts to Australia it sent them all to America. It was only after American independence that Australia got them.

By the way, the ancestors of the criminals were all British. The descendents of some of the convicts live in Australia.

Paul Keating has just made an interesting speech highlighting the difference between nationalism and patriotism.

This topic proves it.

{Yawn} "it's full of the ancestors of all of Englands lowest form of criminals."? "delicious carcases of all of the poached animals"? {Yawn} Just goes to show how much you know about Australia.
(By the way, did you know about the early days of the USA were also full of convicts shipped from Britian? Go read the history book again, mate! )

Australia is great!!! Been to other countries - including the USA, but will always come back here.
