What's happening in the Middle East is the exact OPPOSITE of thinking -- religious fervor, and absolute conviction in the absence of any evidence, are anethema to rational thought and reasoned debate. We need MORE thinking to start going on there, not less.
What you're talking about is BELIEF; and yes, we would all be a lot better off with less belief. And we don't need to be removing parts of peoples' brains, but removing the militias and terrorists; and stop tying the hands of our troops -- that way, they'll be able to actually perform the task they were sent there for.

With the religious zealots I don't think too much brain is the problem.
The blind acceptance of the ridiculous stories in the "holy" books might involve parts of the brain but it's an insult to thinking to call that thinking.
Real thinking is what the world needs more of.
When the president of the United States thinks he talked to God and got the go-ahead for invading Iraq, that is so far removed from thinking that it really really isn't funny.

Yes wrong thinking is definitely bad for humanity. Right thinking is definitely good for humanity. When enough people get it through there thick skulls that we need to concentrate on what is right with the world instead of emphasizing on what is wrong with it , then and only then will a positive change begin to appear. So are you going to a part of the solution or part of the problem?

Its only the imagination that is giving us problems. Unfortunately that is also what separates us from the other animals. Its a lot easier to be inventive with it. Too bad we aren't able to draw a clear line between it and reason.

They could remove the part of the brain that makes people believe religion. Then guess what bible thumpers. The majority of our wars would not happen.

How about you think of all the things we wouldn't have if we weren't allowed to think freely! Books, movies, art, etc...
