I think the writer of Hebrews (most likely the Apostle Paul) is correct...Jesus talked about the rich man and Lazarus....and talked about him dying and being in Hell and wanting to leave to go witness to his brothers. He was told it was too late. Jesus told also about the separation of the the sheep and the goats. The goats weren't given a second chance either.
I don't remember when "indulgences" started being sold but they were "permissions" to sin basically.(By giving money to the church, you got "forgiven" for sin.)...I think the Enemy started that to get people distracted, which is also the same with a "second" chance to accept the Lord....It's a deception to keep people from being totally on fire for the Lord...these are the lukewarm people that will be spit out of His mouth...the ones to whom He says depart from me I never knew you.

I recently asked a question about the Mormon practise of baptism for the dead. I was informed they base this on 1 Corinthians 15:29 "Now if there is no resurrection, what will those do who are baptised for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptised for them?" Paul was making the point that Christians are certain there will be a resurrection, unlike the PAGANS who conduct baptism for the dead. Seems to me this scripture condemns the practise.
Mormons say that since God is merciful and desires all to be saved, then those who never knew about Christ shouldn't be damned for eternity, and that's why they perform baptisms for the dead. It gives them a second chance - in the next life they can chose to accept or reject the baptism. But doesn't the Bible say that people have to REPENT and then be baptised? How can you repent if you're dead? Where does it suggest that you can have a proxy baptism?
There is nothing in the Bible to support the idea that we get a second chance to accept the Lord after we die. Which, as an earlier answer mentioned, debunks the idea of reincarnation. That's why God's moment is always now. You can't sit on the fence when it comes to the Lord - you're either for Him or against Him.

This is mostly due to taking advantage of people who go through grief. They are not given the tools to get over grief, but rather a false hope of something else they can do. This was the extreme error of the Catholic Church when they needed money to build St. Peters Basilica with the selling of indulgences.
Along with Hebrews 9:27 we should also read the event Jesus told regarding Lazarus and the Rich Man. There was absolutely NO mention of a "second chance" or even a way to change your destiny. Harsh reality--true. But truth is truth, and we must deal with it now with the allotted time that God has given us in the here and now.

Yes, You are so correct. This Is The Church Age. We must be Saved Here and Now/..... No second Chance or Reincarnation or the Like. There are scripture Verses to verify these things>>>>>>>Just like the one You are referring to: >>>> " It is Appointed Unto Man Once to Die, After that, The Judgement." God is very Clear about it.

Hebrews 9:27 "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:"
People that like to hold on to their sins guilt after it has been repented become very discouraged over this verse. Judgment in God's eyes has both a positive and negative side; and for those that repent and do God's work, judgment means rewards. The rewards start in this age, and they include all the promises that God has given us in His Word. That is your judgment, collecting those blessings from God. There is no repentance in the grave, so you must not allow the worldly things to make you loose eternal life.

I have a question. It's a given that in todays world there are few people who have not heard the Good News of the Kingdom of God. So in this case I would agree with you. They have had a chance. Well not really. You see unless the Father calls a person they have had no chance. NONE. You can preach to them 24/7 for their whole life and if the Father does not call them, What chance did they have?
What about the countless millions of people who never had the gospel or even the torah under the pre Christian era preached to them? Have they really had a chance?
You have a very narrow concept of the loving God that I worship who does not wish that any should perish but that all should come to eternal life. What about the valley of dry bones in Ezekiel 37?
Someone dismissed the Rev. 20 passage on the second death as not pertaining to a second chance. Again I agree there is no second chance. But what if its their first chance? What if God never called them because he knew of their character flaws that would disqualify them? And what about those who never heard the word of God?
I think its very interesting that being of the Hebraic roots of the Christian faith culture in which we obey and uphold the torah of truth of which Yahshua was the living incarnation of that we who Mainstream Christians call loveless and harsh because we keep the law of God that mainstream christians say we are trying to earning our salvation by works when indeed we are showing our salvation by works, that we establish the law per Paul in Romans 3, believe in a loving God who extends mercy to thousands and that they who believe that they are saved by faith alone and God covers a multitude of their sins, but condemns everyone else to hell, promote a harsh unforgiving God who is just looking for people to kill.
If you really think God is not a God of second chances, perhaps you should go read the torah and see how many chances he gives his people Israel? Oh wait you can't do that, your Christian friends might see you reading the old testiment and scorn you.
My question is how many times does God have to forgive your sins each day? If He wasn't a God of second chances, He wouldn't.

Hello Primo....
I agree... but would you believe I actually read something the other day about people who believe that there is reincarnation as the form of resurrection for the 1000 rule of Christ... and they believe that because of the term "second death" such as in
Revelation 20:6
Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.
I can't seem to find where I read it at this moment....

I have never in 37 years as a Christian heard anything about a "second chance"
We have this life to prepare for eternity by accepting Christ, because after death comes judgement
God gives us plenty of chances here in this life

there will be no second chances given after death. the persons who were given that chance were those who existed before the death an resurrection of Jesus.( see Eph.4;10, Hosea 13:14)
what would be whole point of living a godly life while alive if this was ture?

The verse is clear- you only live once and from the time of your death till the time of your resurrection there is nothing.
Ecclesiastes 9.5-6
5 For the living know that they will die,
but the dead know nothing;
they have no further reward,
and even the memory of them is forgotten.
6 Their love, their hate
and their jealousy have long since vanished;
never again will they have a part
in anything that happens under the sun.
